Dear Resurrection Family,
Candlelight Christmas Eve was incredible! I am so grateful to each of you who invited friends to worship with us, who volunteered to help welcome our guests, and who made room for them! We don’t have all the attendance numbers in yet, but we do know that at our in-person services in Kansas City we welcomed more than 2,000 people over last year’s attendance. We won’t have the final online and television attendance numbers for a couple of weeks. I’ll share those then.
To those who volunteered at each of our locations, thank you! Whether you were greeting, handing out candles, ushering, lighting candles, working in the nursery, directing cars and people in the parking lots, running lights and sound, or making sure we were safe – I am so grateful for you. You truly shared the light of Christ with our community.
I’d also like to thank the thousands of you who generously contributed to our Candlelight Christmas Eve offering to support vulnerable children and families locally and globally. Gifts are still coming in, and if you’d like to participate, you can do so here.
In the liturgical calendar, we are in the season of Christmastide, which begins on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and continues through Jan. 6, which is Epiphany, the day that commemorates Matthew’s account of the Magi visiting Jesus. This weekend in worship, we’re going to continue the Christmas story by focusing on Mary and Joseph’s experience of Christmas and what happens after the birth of Jesus. Pastor Scott Chrostek will be sharing the sermon that explores what God may be calling us, like Joseph, to do as we move into a new year.
This Sunday is also a “Worship Together Weekend.” We invite children ages 5 and up to join their families in worship. Nursery is available for children 4 and under.
Beginning January 11, I’ll be launching a sermon series called Fearless: Overcoming Fear with Faith, that will focus on common fears and how scripture and our faith play a part in helping us live fearlessly. These sermons will be based upon your fears, and I’d love for you to take a five-minute survey to provide your input. I’ll be comparing your results with a similar survey we did nine years ago to see how our fears have changed, which have remained the same, and how you cope with fear. If you are in your teens, 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, I would really like you to take the survey. You can take the survey here and help me as I prepare for this series.
