The season of Advent marks the beginning of a new year according to the Christian calendar. For many the shift from December to January provokes the anticipation of new life rhythms created by new year’s resolutions. Advent is a season filled with similar kinds of expectation, only it’s not found in new resolutions, but through the new and surprising realities brought on by a baby born in Bethlehem. Advent is a season of great expectation, it is also a beautiful season of surprise, because nobody actually knows what’s coming next. Do you know what coming next in your life? In your church? In the world?
I wonder what’s coming next for you? What’s next in your life, beyond the presents, family gatherings and Christmas traditions? What are you anticipating in your life? What are you dreading? These are the questions that should fill our hearts and minds during the Advent season. And this is what we’ll wrestle with in this three week devotional study. I hope you’ll join me… I know you’ll be surprised if you do.
This three-week study led by Pastor Scott Chrostek will meet in the Wesley Room at Resurrection Brookside on November 28, December 5, and December 12.
