Men's Fishing and Retreat

Hosted by the RezWest Men’s Group, the 2023 Men’s Fly-Fishing Trip & Retreat will be open on a first come, first serve basis to all men.  Join us for a weekend of fly fishing and fellowship – as we seek to have fun and bond and grow in our faith as Christian men — at the beautiful Rockbridge Rainbow Trout Ranch.   Our weekend begins on Friday with arrival in time for our 6:00 pm dinner at Rockbridge.  Note, however, that you have the option to drive down Friday morning and fish all day Friday at no extra cost.  Evening activity will include a men’s devotion followed by relaxing at the Rockbridge resort.  Saturday’s agenda includes fishing all day with a second group dinner and evening devotion.  Sunday is checkout day at whatever time you wish to return to K.C.  Note that no prior fly-fishing experience is needed.  Olathe’s own fly-fishing equipment craftsman and expert fishing guide Gary Schlotzhauer will be joining us to train and coach us as needed through the weekend. 

Details:

• Rockbridge Location and web site:  4297 Co Rd 142, Rockbridge, MO 65741.  A 4-hour drive from the KC area.  https://www.rockbridgemo.com/

• Arrive:  any time Friday 9/08, but in time for our 6:00 group dinner in the Rockbridge restaurant.

• Depart:  any time Sunday 9/10.

• Cost:  $245.00 per man due at registration through the link.  This pays for your room at Rockbridge for Friday and Saturday nights.  Two men per room, each with their own bed.  On Friday night, you will receive a Men’s Fishing Trip & Retreat set of 10 trout flies custom tied by Gary Schlotzhauer specifically for the Rockbridge stream.  For most men, these flies will last you for the entire weekend of fishing.

• Additional Cost: 
  • Rockbridge will collect a $30 fee for your MO fishing tag when you register.  In addition, Rockbridge operates on a “catch and keep” basis.  You keep all fish you land, Rockbridge fillets them, flash freezes them, and boxes them for you for your return to KC where your fillets are good in your freezer for up to a year.  Rockbridge charges $5.50 per pound for this and will bill you for the pounds you catch when you check out on Sunday.
  • All meals at Rockbridge are paid individually at the Rockbridge restaurant.
  • Fly fishing rods are available for rent through Rockbridge 417-679-3619 and through Gary Schlotzhauer 816-985-688-3474.  In addition, Rockbridge has a full fishing shop with clothes and equipment.
• Cancellation Date:  full refund is available for cancellations received by August 1^st.

• Worth Noting:  We can teach anyone to fish for trout and go in any weather, so dress appropriately.  Rockbridge raises rainbow trout on property.  Every weekend, they put approximately 600 trout in the pond below the dam just for our fishing pleasure – we aren’t making this up!  In addition to the pond at the dam, there are about 2 miles of downstream trout fishing that are simply beautiful to walk and fish.

• Warning to First Time Fly Fishermen:  you will absolutely fall in love with this sport, Rockbridge, and this annual Men’s trip.  It is highly likely that you will then devote your next years’ worth of birthdays, Christmas, father’s days, anniversaries, national donut day, and whatever other holidays it takes accumulating your own fly-fishing equipment and clothes.  Most guys do.  Game on!
