Our team traveled safely to the country of Honduras today! We were greeted at the airport with friendly faces who transported us to our home base for the week in Tegucigalpa. The locals affectionally refer to this capital city as “Teguc” and it is a marvel! Steep topography changes, building upon buildings, people upon people, it’s a bustling urban metropolis! We settled into our rooms, shared a lovely dinner together and sat to plan and pray through our week. We are excited to see what God has in store for our team this week!

We traveled to Cuidad España this beautiful Sunday morning in time for worship at the Juan Wesley UMC! To those thinking they’d like to also one day experience worship in Honduras, not too many secrets leaked, but it is the epitome of a JOYFUL NOISE! The music is colorful, happy and spirit-FILLED! The young women’s dance group excited the sanctuary with praises to God with on beat postures and tambourines with dancing ribbons! Pastor Hector led a sermon encouraging the congregation that, “en esa fiesta debemos de amar al que temenos cerca, hay que miramos para amar al que no” or more recognizably, “in celebration we most love those who are close to us and we must look to love those who are not.”
Lunch provided an opportunity for connection with sponsors, sponsored students and their families. This aspect of ministry is dire for some students to experience an education, and their families are unapologetically appreciative! There may be a slight language barrier, but shared stories through interpretation and family experiences in pictures offer a great sense of connection. A congregant prepared a delicious meal of chicken, vegetables and potatoes, filling our tummies and our hearts. Our team looks forward to spending the week in this most hospitable arena, including seeing these recognizable faces bounding by!
Tomorrow, we start our week with students at the Juan Wesley school!
