In-person programs have been canceled until Wednesday at 5 PM at each of the church’s locations, with the exception of recovery meetings, backpack stuffing for school partners, and the food pantry at Overland Park, which will each continue as scheduled.
The church will reopen on Wednesday at 5 pm for all scheduled programs.
At the end of our service, at each location, we’ll give you a brief update from our building committees that I think you’ll find interesting!
As we recognize our graduates, I’m going to be preaching a sermon based on the film, Jesus Revolution. This film has been at the theaters the last couple of months, and we showed it at several locations this past Wednesday. The film is set in 1970-71 and is based on a true story of what happened when a group of “hippies” found Jesus and showed up at a predominantly older small congregation in Costa Mesa, California. My sermon will include clips from the film, and we’ll see why our times are ripe for another Jesus revolution today – this time led by Gen Z and and older adults who love them. It will be a meaningful and fun weekend in worship as we celebrate our grads and their families. (Here’s the movie trailer if you want to check it out.)
Invite someone to join you in person, online or on TV by sharing worship service options at resurrection.church/worship.
In worship at all our locations, we will recognize and pray for our graduates. We also have a small gift bag for each of our high school grads at all of our locations. Graduates, be sure to stop by and pick one up.
At this past Tuesday’s Church Conference, we approved our Staff Parish Relations Committee’s recommendation of Deborah Dellinger as a candidate for pastoral ministry in the United Methodist Church. Debbie has been an active Resurrection member for many years, serving in a variety of positions, including as a Connection and Care Minister and a young adult mentor. She is currently pursuing a degree at Perkins School of Theology. Debbie brings a wealth of experience and a heart for caring for people to this calling. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for her.
Thank you to everyone who donated blood at our Blood Drives last week! Your generosity resulted in 743 units of blood collected at our Leawood, Overland Park, Blue Springs and West locations, and helped replenish critically low supplies in our community.
You don’t have to wait until June to serve! You can sign up now and join Resurrection to serve at a variety of places in the community tomorrow. We have quite a few openings still available for you, your family, friends, and small group to serve. Here’s the link to sign up.
The River of Light Oratorio is an incredible choral and orchestral program dedicated to the stained glass window in the Leawood Sanctuary. If you are in the Kansas City area, this is a very special opportunity to experience an awesome musical performance under the amazing stained glass window that inspired it. The program is in the Leawood Sanctuary (Building A-5009 W. 137th Street) at 7 pm on Saturday, May 20.
Join me this Tuesday, May 23, at 7:30 pm CDT for our weekly Vespers. You can join me live on my Pastor Adam Hamilton Facebook page Tuesday night, or watch the replay on my FB page or our YouTube channel after Tuesday.
I shared, in worship, that registration is now open for our annual women’s conference February 2-3, 2024. Save those dates and make plans to attend. Register by August 1 for a significant cost discount. Here’s the registration link.
Resurrection is honored to be nominated again this year by Kansas City magazine as one of the best places to worship in Kansas City. We are grateful for this recognition that represents our commitment to welcome everyone and provide a worship experience that inspires and challenges you to live out your faith in the world throughout the week. Worship really isn’t a competition, and we are grateful for and support all the churches in Kansas City that are leading worship every weekend and helping make our city look more like the kingdom of God. (But if you do want to vote for Resurrection, here’s the link. We’re listed under the City Life category.)
Some have asked me where they can watch, Holy Frit, the terrific film about the Resurrection stained glass window. It spent 18 months at film festivals, winning best documentary at ten of them! Currently, the filmmaker is working with a film promotion company to get distribution of the film in arts theatres and other theatres across the US, in order to help it get picked up by one of the national streaming services. The film’s production company is using a crowd-funding approach for the distribution costs. If you loved the film and have an interest in being a sponsor for its distribution, check out the video and opportunities to support it by clicking here.
We’ve had nearly 1,000 people already sign up, and I hope you’ll bring your family and friends and join us at the K. You can use the link below to purchase discounted tickets in any section available for the Royals game at 3 pm, and then stay for an amazing worship experience on the field with our COR Worship Collective and player testimonies. Your Resurrection ticket also includes a treat at the tent in the outfield. As I mentioned last week, I’ve been working on my opening pitch, and last week we had a visit from Sluggerrr to give me some tips. Here’s a fun video of Sluggerrr and me that you might enjoy. I’ll keep practicing. Use this link to order discounted tickets today.
