Ash Wednesday services at all Resurrection locations will be held on schedule today.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
Inspire a love of reading and help close the opportunity gap—one book at a time.
As a BookMobile volunteer, you’ll help students in need select a “just right” book they can keep and add to their home libraries. It’s a joyful, hands-on way to encourage literacy and learning in our partner schools.
Our Resurrection BookMobile Ministry is one of our initiatives aimed at Closing the Opportunity Gap for children in Kansas City. Through our partner schools, we distribute over 60,000 books to students throughout the Kansas City Metro each year.
Our program focuses on schools with at least 75% free and reduced lunch recipients. In addition, we support many after school and summer school programs in underserved areas.
The BookMobile program is administered by many volunteers who are committed to helping improve literacy at our partner schools and organizations. Last year our BookMobile volunteers invested over 2,000 hours of their time toward this goal. When the Resurrection BookMobile rolls up to a school, students light up with excitement. With help from volunteers and teachers, each child selects one brand new book to keep—purchased by Resurrection and carefully chosen for Preschool through 6th Grade readers, including books written in Spanish.
In addition to their new book, students also get to choose one gently used book, donated by community partners, book drives, and generous Resurrection members.
Our BookMobile serves schools where 75% or more of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. For many of these children, books at home are a luxury—and our program helps change that. By giving students the chance to build their own home libraries, we’re making reading more accessible and empowering them to grow as learners.
One chronic challenge we face is a shortage of gently used children’s books for students in Preschool through 6th grade. Would you host a Book Drive at your school? We’ll provide materials to help you be successful and will pick up the books at the conclusion of the drive. Email Local Missions to learn more.
If you would like to support the purchase of new books you can contribute to Resurrection. In the memo line of your check please notate “BookMobile”. You can also purchase new books if you prefer. When purchasing new books, please purchase a minimum of 5 copies of a title. To secure a list of our most popular titles email Local Missions.
Resurrection’s Vision 2030 includes Closing the Opportunity Gap. Our Partner Schools program plays a key role in that initiative as we work to combat the fact that of the 6,800 four-year-olds in the KC metropolitan area, less than 1/3 have access to pre-school.
Part of our Vision 2030 Closing the Opportunity Gap is to ensure every four-year-old who will attend our partner schools has access to pre-K education so that they are prepared to succeed in elementary school.
We are also working to increase the number of partner schools from the present eight to ten, including one partnership in each campus’ surrounding community.
These are big goals that won’t be accomplished over night. But, we work to close this gap inch by inch, day by day, & there are plenty of opportunities detailed below for you to join us!
