Resurrection BookMobile

Our Resurrection BookMobile Ministry is one of our initiatives aimed at Closing the Opportunity Gap for children in Kansas City. Through our partner schools, we distribute over 60,000 books to students throughout the Kansas City Metro each year.

Our program focuses on schools with at least 75% free and reduced lunch recipients. In addition, we support many after school and summer school programs in underserved areas.

The BookMobile program is administered by many volunteers who are committed to helping improve literacy at our partner schools and organizations. Last year our BookMobile volunteers invested over 2,000 hours of their time toward this goal. If you’re ready to join us in Closing the Opportunity Gap through the Resurrection BookMobile, click the button below to get started.

How It Works

New Books

Can you imagine a child’s excitement when the BookMobile arrives at his/her school?  At each visit, with the help of Resurrection volunteers and teachers, every student chooses one brand new book to keep. These books are purchased by Resurrection and include popular book series for students in Preschool through 6th Grade, as well as books written in Spanish.

Used Books

Students also choose one gently used book to keep. These books are donated by metro area schools hosting book drives, neighborhood book drives, scout troops and members of Resurrection. Older students can also choose a dictionary or thesaurus as a free bonus book.

How You Can Help

Used Books:

One chronic challenge we face is a shortage of gently used children’s books for students in Preschool through 6th grade. Would you host a Book Drive at your school? We’ll provide materials to help you be successful and will pick up the books at the conclusion of the drive. Contact Diane Sharber at 419-396-6721 or dianesharber@gmail.com to learn more.

New Books:

If you would like to support the purchase of new books you can contribute to Resurrection. In the memo line of your check please notate “BookMobile”. You can also purchase new books if you prefer. When purchasing new books, please purchase a minimum of 5 copies of a title. You can secure a list of our most popular titles from Diane Sharber 419-396-6721 or dianesharber@gmail.com .

Closing the Opportunity Gap

Resurrection’s Vision 2030 includes Closing the Opportunity Gap. Our Partner Schools program plays a key role in that initiative as we work to combat the fact that of the 6,800 four-year-olds in the KC metropolitan area, less than 1/3 have access to pre-school.

Part of our Vision 2030 Closing the Opportunity Gap is to ensure every four-year-old who will attend our partner schools has access to pre-K education so that they are prepared to succeed in elementary school.

We are also working to increase the number of partner schools from the present eight to ten, including one partnership in each campus’ surrounding community.

These are big goals that won’t be accomplished over night. But, we work to close this gap inch by inch, day by day, & there are plenty of opportunities detailed below for you to join us!
