Dear Resurrection Family,

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! We had our first Candlelight Christmas Eve service last night at our Leawood location concluding an amazing weekend of worship as we celebrated the fourth Sunday of Advent. Last night we had the balcony closed as we began the service; based on last year’s numbers we anticipated having plenty of room in the lower level. However, people kept coming and we ended up opening the balcony and had quite a crowd! Thanks to all who joined us last night. The service was beautiful, and I can’t wait for the services tonight and tomorrow!

CANDLELIGHT SERVICES TONIGHT

We’ll have services tonight, Monday, Dec. 23, at Leawood (5 and 7 pm), West (5 pm), Downtown (5 pm), Brookside (5 pm) and Online (5 pm CST). At every service and location, we’ll sing Christmas carols, read the story of Jesus’ birth from the scriptures, explore what this means for us today, and share in the tradition of passing candlelight while singing Silent Night. Traditionally, these “Eve Eve” services are not quite as full, and you have easier parking and access. If it works with your plans, I hope you’ll join us. Childcare is available for ages 4 and under.

HAVE YOU INVITED SOMEONE TO CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES?

We were challenged this weekend to let God’s light shine through us, and one easy way to do that is to invite someone who needs to experience this light that drives out the darkness in our world to Candlelight Christmas Eve services. Here’s the link to the one-minute video invitations, and the link to the webpage with all the worship times and locations that you can share. And, if your friends live outside of Kansas City, they can join us online from anywhere by using this link: resurrection.church/live.

CHRISTMAS AND HANUKKAH ON DEC. 25

This year, as we celebrate Christmas Day, our Jewish friends and neighbors will be celebrating the first day of Hanukkah. It’s not often that these two coincide, but they both share a powerful theme of light pushing aside the darkness in our world. If you’re interested, I wrote a guest commentary for the Kansas City Star on this that was published today. You can read it here.

Looking forward to celebrating Christmas Eve Eve with you!
