Dear Resurrection Family,

Just a quick reminder that tonight, from 6:30 to 8 pm CDT, we’re hosting A Conversation with the Senior Pastor. Over the last few weeks, we’ve invited you to submit questions about theology, the Bible, how faith speaks to social issues and more. You turned in 12 pages of questions!

We’ve grouped these by topic, and tonight I’ll begin with your questions about death, cremation, heaven and hell. Here are just a few of the 30 questions submitted about heaven, hell, judgment and the afterlife:

  • Is cremation okay and why?
  • What age will we appear in heaven?
  • What will heaven be like?
  • What is the eternal fate of people of other faiths?
  • Assuming I go to heaven will I have to associate with my abuser?

I’ll spend about 30 minutes answering as many of these questions as I can.

I’ll turn to questions about the United Methodist Church and Resurrection’s part in it. There were 19 questions submitted on this topic among which were:

  • How many churches are leaving the UMC over LGBT inclusion?
  • How would Jesus look at the question of LGBT inclusion?
  • What is the UMC view of atonement? Women as clergy?
  • Why do we use grape juice (unfermented wine) at Communion?
  • What is the UMC position on gender transitioning in minors? Your opinion?

We’ll cover these and others for about 30 minutes.

You also asked questions about social issues including abortion, climate, declining patriotism and values (recent WSJ report), the church’s racial justice statement, war, guns, and nationalism. I’ll cover some of these questions tonight, and some next week when we meet for part two of this conversation.

You can join me from 6:30 to 8 pm CDT live in person in the Leawood Sanctuary – please sit up near the front. Or join me online at cor.org/live or Facebook Live where I share my Tuesday Vespers. You can also watch on YouTube after tonight by clicking here.

I’m excited to spend this evening with you answering as many of your questions as possible. Next week we’ll focus on your questions concerning the Bible, other Christian doctrines, politics and faith, grief, the end times and more!

Hope to see you tonight!

Adam
