Dear Resurrection Family,

I hope you had a great 4th of July! This weekend is Independence Day weekend and our focus in the message will be…Freedom.

THIS WEEKEND: FREEDOM

This weekend you’ll be able to hear messages from some of our amazing location pastors. They’ll all share a special message with their unique perspective on what the Bible and Christian faith have to say about “Freedom.” Pastor Robert Johnson will be preaching at Leawood, online, on television, and via video at Downtown. Pastor Jen Schultz will be at Brookside; Pastor Suzy Ayers at Overland Park; Pastor Bill Gepford at West, and Pastor Penny Ellwood at Blue Springs.

This is going to be a meaningful weekend of worship and an opportunity to connect with your location pastors. For those who can, come in person. If you’re traveling or are unable to attend in person, join us on KMCI Channel 38 at 8 or 11 am, or join us online.

FIVE OF LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT LIFE LESSONS – WHAT DO YOU THINK?

On July 12, I turn 60, and I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve learned in those 60 years, about the Christian faith, what matters most in life, and the five big ideas that, if you get them, and practice them when you are in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s it leads to a great second half. I’ve prepared a short survey and I’d love you to take it – it takes less than 5 minutes – I’ll share in my sermon on July 13/14 your wisdom on the most important life lessons and your thoughts about life’s most important lessons. Here’s the link.

THANK YOU, SCHOOL MAKE-OVER TEAM!

Thank you to the 288 volunteers who helped with our summer school makeover project. This summer, we helped paint, clean and transform Woodland Early Learning Center. We hope that when the students, teachers and staff return for the school year, they will feel inspired, encouraged and appreciated. KSHB Channel 41 shared this story with the community. If you missed it, you can see it here. This is just one of the many ways we are working to close the opportunity gap for all children in our community through education. You can learn more about our partner school ministry here. We’re also supporting children through our annual school supply drive during this month of July. Learn about donating here.

JOIN ME FOR VESPERS THIS TUESDAY

Join me on Tuesday for Vespers, I will be coming to you from Longview Mansion after speaking at the Lee’s Summit gathering. It may be a little after 7:30 pm (CDT) when I’m able to join on Facebook Live. I’ll be discussing the State Superintendent of Schools requirement that Oklahoma public schools must all have a Bible in the classroom. My hope is that each of you carry a Bible in your pocket or purse everywhere you go, as I do, and that you read the Bible daily. When I was in high school, I carried a Bible with me every day at school. So, what are the positives and negatives of a state mandate that Bibles be in public school classrooms? You can catch my Vespers at my Pastor Adam Hamilton Facebook page, access it here watching live or later. It is also posted after on YouTube.

On Vespers last week, I shared more of my interview with Dr. Franck Marchis, Senior Planetary Astronomer with the SETI Institute. If you missed this, you can watch it here.

I’m looking forward to worship and hearing from our location pastors this weekend!
