Church programs for Monday, Jan. 22 will resume their normal schedule at all locations this evening.
Leawood’s Sunday night in-person worship has been moved to 4 pm for Sunday, February 11.
Dear Resurrection Family,
Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and this weekend we’ll be recognizing veterans in our worship services. If you know a veteran, thank them for their service. Here’s a link to some of the Veterans Day activities in Kansas City.
This weekend in my sermon I’ll take you to a great moment from the Country Music Awards as we see what New Artist of the Year, Jelly Roll, has in common with the Apostle Paul. Then I’ll take you on a journey of the first two of Paul’s Missionary Journeys. We’ll visit Philippi, Athens and Corinth with the help of video footage we shot there. And we’ll find leadership and life lessons from Paul’s first two missionary journeys. We’ll learn about Paul’s calling from God and I’ll invite you to think about your calling.
Invite a friend to join you these next few weeks as we study The Call: The Life and Journeys of Paul the Apostle.
This weekend we celebrate one of my favorite events in the life of our church, as we present each third grader with a Bible of their very own. I’ll be challenging the children (and you!) to read the Gospel of Mark leading up to Christmas. Then we have a fun Bible Exploration Retreat for our third graders and their adults on Friday, November 17. If you haven’t already registered your child, please use this link to do so. This is an important moment in a child’s faith development and we hope to instill in our third graders a love of scripture by making the presentation of their Bibles a memorable event.
This weekend I, and our location pastors, will be sharing the results, to date, from our Generation to Generation Capital Campaign in worship. We are grateful for your commitments and excited to see how God will use them to transform lives in the future. Each pledge represents an act of worship and commitment to growing in faith through generosity. If you have yet to make your commitment, we’d love to include your commitment in the announcement this weekend. Click here to make your 2024 annual ministry commitment or your Generation to Generation capital campaign commitment. Remember, your annual ministry commitment is critical to our ministry, and your capital campaign commitment is for three years and should be in addition to your annual ministry commitment. Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to sharing with you where we are to date.
We have several ways for you to give back during this season of thanksgiving. You can find details at cor.org/next. Opportunities include:
• Thanksgiving Meal Bags
• Winter Warmth Collections
• Serving in the Community
Tomorrow night, we have nearly 2,500 people joining us at the Leawood sanctuary for an evening with Jen Hatmaker and Tyler Merritt called Dream Again. If you are interested in attending, click here to order your tickets.

This Tuesday night for Vespers I will be sitting down with Dr. Majdi Hamarshi, a Palestinian ICU doctor here in Kansas City who is the chairman of the board of the Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA), and Rabbi Art Nemitoff, Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation B’nai Jehudah as we discuss the events in Israel and Gaza since October 7, what led to these events, and what needs to happen now. These are two thoughtful, remarkable men. I’m grateful for their willingness to talk with me and with each other. Join me on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on Facebook Live watch on YouTube later in the week.
