Resurrection Overland Park - Room 2

Join other artists the first Saturday of each month with the Resurrection Art Guild. The Art Guild is a place where artists gather with other artists (both established and beginners) who want to enjoy, share and learn more about our God-given artistic talents. At each gathering, we have a presenting artist that shows their work, gives a short bio, and demonstrates a technique or leads us in a project. We share our love of art with each other, enjoy refreshments and learn from one another. Our presenter on June 1 is Esther Boyd.

Esther Boyd, a contemporary artist, living in Kansas City. She was born and raised on the plains of Kansas in Monument, KS, a small farming community.  Her upbringing, rooted deep within a world caught between the 1890s and 1960s, went on to shape not only Boyd’s unique perspective of the world. Esther takes flowers as much of her subject matter, emphasizing color and brushwork.

From an early age, Esther gravitated towards the arts, encouraged greatly by her mother who is also an artist. Esther saw art as both a mental exercise and a form of escapism. The artistic connection in the Boyd family extends to her great aunt, Tecla, a self-taught artist who worked in the 1950s and 1960s.

She studied art at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Additionally, she pursued a BFA in Textile Design and a Masters in Architecture and Culture from the University of Kansas. She has taken several workshops with accomplished artists such as Jerry Brown, Philomene Bennett, Carol Marine and Lisa Daria Kennedy.

Esther loves yoga and the practice of Ayurveda, which also reflects in her art, symbolizing a communion between the physical and metaphysical aspects of life. When she isn’t working on her art, she enjoys a good cup of tea.

Her work will be on display at Westwood City Hall during May 2024.
