Daily Scripture

Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29, selected verses

Then King David said to the whole assembly…I have dedicated my own private treasure of gold and silver to my God’s temple… Who else, then, will volunteer, dedicating themselves to the LORD today? Then the leaders of ancestral houses made their freewill offerings…The people REJOICED at this response, because they had presented their offerings to the LORD so willingly and wholeheartedly. King David also REJOICED greatly… LORD, our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a temple for your holy name comes from your hand and belongs to you… now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and JOYOUSLY to you… Then David said to the whole assembly, “Bless the LORD your God.” And all the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before the LORD and the king… On the next day they offered sacrifices and they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great JOY.

Daily Reflection & Prayer

During this capital campaign, I have been deep in prayer about my own commitment and praying for the commitment of our entire congregation and community. As I wrap up my Master of Divinity Degree at Saint Paul School of Theology one of my final classes is United Methodist Doctrine. We focus on John Wesley, the founder of Methodism and the impact and creation of our United Methodist Doctrine.

The Wesley Covenant prayer is a prayer that I have been focused on during this season of increasing our commitment and I pray that you will be moved by it as I have been. As I learn more about Wesley and study his sermons, I fall in love with Methodism all over again. I am so grateful to serve Resurrection as one of the pastors!

Let’s pray:

Prayer

I am no longer my own, but yours. Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you, praised for you or criticized for you. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and fully surrender all things to your glory and service. And now, O wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, you are mine, and I am yours. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, Let it also be made in heaven. Amen.
