Daily Scripture

Matthew 28:8-10, 16-20 (CEB)

With great fear and excitement, they hurried away from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. But Jesus met them and greeted them. They came and grabbed his feet and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Go and tell my brothers that I am going into Galilee. They will see me there.”

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”

Daily Reflection & Prayer

We will have different sorts of days today. Some of us will have a quiet day and a good chance to rest and reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice, resurrection, and the fact that he promised we would never be lone. Some of us will have a day full of family and fun and egg hunting, and all the family dynamics that go with it.  Some of us will be sick, or in pain, struggling with the challenges of life, and call out, comforted by the promise that Jesus will never leave us alone.

Whatever the day looks like for us, we can all pray together, joined with the generations all over the planet who will be praying and contemplating Jesus words to the disciples.

Prayer
Jesus, we come to you this day with hearts full of joy and hope. You are risen indeed! The world is waiting for us to fulfill the orders you gave the 11 disciples, and all of us who love you and follow you: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I commanded.” (Matthew 28:19)
Let them see your commands at work in our lives as we go forward into the world. Most of all, let them see the love we have for God, with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and see our love for all people, guided by your Word. Amen.
