Ash Wednesday services at all Resurrection locations will be held on schedule today.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.
Do you ever feel like you’re holding onto things that weigh you down—regrets, grudges, or old habits that keep you stuck in place? It’s like trying to run a race with weights strapped to your ankles. You can still move forward, but it’s exhausting, and progress feels slow.
In Philippians 3:12-14, Paul shares wisdom we desperately need today: letting go is essential if we want to move toward what really matters. He reminds us that none of us have it all figured out. We’re all still reaching, stretching, and pressing onward, aiming for the goal of becoming more like Jesus. To get there, we must discern what to hold tightly and what we need to release.
And what exactly should we hold onto? Jesus makes it clear in John 13:34-35: love. Loving one another in the same way Jesus loved us is how we show the world we are His followers. Love is our compass, our goal, and our guide. It clarifies what truly matters and helps us release the unnecessary baggage we carry.
This week, ask yourself: What am I holding onto that’s keeping me from fully embracing Christ’s love and sharing it freely? As you let go of those burdens, you’ll find renewed strength to run your race with joy and purpose.
This week, practice a “Letting Go” prayer. Find a quiet space each morning and hold your hands open. Visualize placing your burdens—resentment, regrets, fears—in your open palms, and then intentionally lift your hands toward God, symbolizing release. Then ask God to fill your now-empty hands with His love and grace, guiding you forward. Feel the freedom in surrender, knowing you’re moving closer to Christ.
This week's prayer tip is by Max Franks, who serves as a Connection & Care Pastor at Resurrection's Leawood location.
