Daily Scripture

John 13:34-35 and 15:12-13 (CEB), Romans 13:9b (CEB), 1 John 3:18 and 4:8 (CEB)

[Jesus said to his disciples,] “I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other…This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you. No one has greater love than to give up one’s life for one’s friends.”

[The commandments] are all summed up in one word: You must love your neighbor as yourself.

Little children, let’s not love with words or speech but with action and truth… The person who doesn’t love does not know God, because God is love.

Daily Reflection & Prayer

The past couple of weeks have been torture as a parent. My daughter, Sydney, was in a horrific car accident where she endured broken bones, facial laceration and then did not wake up from her surgery. She experienced an embolus which traveled from her legs into her brain causing several mini strokes. As I write this prayer tip, Sydney will be transferred soon to rehabilitation in Nebraska.

The amount of love and kindness that I have witnessed have been overwhelming. I have seen Sydney’s story transform the hearts of people I have not heard of in over twenty years. See, tragedy often brings us together. It reminds us of all that life is so fragile. God has gifted us with this beautiful life. It is meant to bring us joy. I have witnessed so many incredible experiences but most of all I have been reminded of our Easter hope–the worst thing is never the last thing!

Let us pray:

Prayer

God, even in scary moments where we feel out of control, we know that you are there to calm the storms that rage inside us. Grant us grace in difficult circumstances, faith where it is hard to understand the struggles we face and peace that passes all understanding. In all things, we praise you and we thank you for gifting us with this amazing and beautiful life full of a restored faith! Amen!
