Church programs for Monday, Jan. 22 will resume their normal schedule at all locations this evening.
Leawood’s Sunday night in-person worship has been moved to 4 pm for Sunday, February 11.
My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples… This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
A Samaritan, while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.”
Be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to grow angry.
Our Scripture today speaks of the ways we want to show up and represent God in this world. Here is a simple prayer practice that will help you invite God to be with you and to change you more and more into the person God desires you to be. It’s an especially powerful prayer for this election season.
Sit or stand with your elbows at your side, your hands out in front of you, palms up. In the prayer below [up] means to turn your palms up and [down] means to turn your palms down.
Pray this prayer to God.
Wonderful and holy God, be with me as I pray.
[down](Turn your palms down)I reject hate and indifference
[up](Turn your palms up) And I receive your love
[down] I reject cynicism and hopelessness [up] And I receive your joy
[down] I reject anxiety and fear [up] And I receive your peace
[down] I reject restlessness and hurry [up] And I receive your patience
[down] I reject meanness and contempt for others [up] And I receive your kindness
[down] I reject dishonesty and hurtful language [up] And I receive your goodness
[down] I reject disloyalty and dishonor [up] And I receive your faithfulness
[down] I reject harshness and thoughtlessness [up] And I receive your gentleness
[down] I reject selfishness and impulsivity [up] And I receive your self-control
Thank you God, for all these things you give to me.
Help me to live like your child today, and to honor you with all I do. Amen.
