Daily Scripture

Mark 9:2-9

2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5Then Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ 6He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!’ 8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead

This week I have been preparing for Ash Wednesday. Each year, during Lent, I see my life change in extraordinary ways. I take intentional time with God daily but in new ways during the Lenten season.

During this season, I invite you to write down your prayers. Start small–use the notepad feature on your phone. Next, mark your calendar daily to pull out a piece of paper and start by writing a letter to God for your prayer time. In the middle of your day, take time to pray and thank God for all of the blessings in your life. Invite a prayer buddy during the Lenten season to say a prayer on the phone or by text. Let us be people desiring to have a daily relationship with God.

Almighty and Everlasting God,
Propel us to be drawn into a relationship with you during this Lenten season. Let us be people who find prayer to be a time of connection. Let us grow deeper in our prayer life. As we stray from the path, pull us back, Lord. We are a people who are in desperate need of a Savior. We pray all of this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
