What a day of faith, new friendships and SHOPPING!

Our day began with a traditional Honduran church service in the chapel upstairs from the United Methodist center where we are staying.  Pastor Magdalena and Rigo (program manager for COR in Honduras) led the service.  They warmly welcomed all of us from COR and graciously invited Pastor Joshua to assist in the communion service.  A highlight was a beautiful duet by Aiden and Piper who sang Affection of Your Heart and How Great is Our God.

After church we were joined at lunch by another United Methodist mission group from Peoria, IL, several of whom were from the same church where Kathy’s father served as senior pastor in the 1970s.

Tomorrow we have been invited by a local school to organize a morning of activities for up to 60 middle and high school students, so today we planned a variety of fun activities and went shopping at Walmart for supplies.  This evening we are blowing up balloons, organizing materials and planning our own version of Vacation Bible Camp…Honduras style.

Throughout all our activities, we are enjoying fun and fellowship amongst ourselves; sharing our backgrounds, gifts and journeys of faith.  We have also been getting to know the wonderful men and women who operate the Methodist center where we are staying.  They include cooks, housekeepers, drivers and others who tirelessly make us feel at home.

The week ahead promises to be full of new experiences and opportunities to share our faith with youth, families and seniors in Tegucigalpa. We will share much more with you in the days ahead.
