Malawi: July 10 - 22, 2025

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.”
Every day of our journey, we’ve witnessed Malawians, Opulence staff and our team members letting their light shine – and day six was no different.
This morning’s first stop was United Methodist Montessori and ECD preschool, one of 18 early learning centers funded by COR. All eyes were on the teacher.
“Our letter of the week is Z.”
“Our number of the week is 10.“
“Our shape of the week is circle.”
With booming voices that say to the world “I’m here!”, the children answer in call-and-response fashion. It was a gift to witness their learning.
Our team’s next stop was a village embarking on Permaculture farming, a collaborative and sustainable agricultural model run and funded by Opulence Malawi and supported by a network of participating farmers.
Joyful singing and dancing greeted our pink bus, and minutes later the program began.
“We thank you for your presence and your support of our farming.” — Village Chief
“Our goal is to end hunger. We want this village to be a model for Permaculture farming.” —  Hugo Ngwira, Executive Director, Opulence Malawi
We were there to work, so we formed 15 teams — local villagers and COR team members — and immediately started hoeing and planting villagers’ gardens and building fences around them Our COR team loved the physical labor, and our Malawi friends were impressed that everyone worked so hard. We closed the morning by thanking our partners for their warmth and graciousness, and wishing them a bountiful harvest.
After another delicious lunch at the Madisi Permaculture test farm, our COR team returned to the Mtanila Community Library to provide basic computer training and catalog donated books. 35 locals attended the computer training, one traveling from 21 miles away.
At the close of our last full day in Malawi, we climbed on the pink bus filled with joy and love and hope — wishing we could stay longer.
