Uganda: Jan. 28 - Feb. 8, 2025

The morning began with the sounds of roosters & birds, the sights of a bright orange sunrise, and the taste of fresh pineapple, watermelon, and rich, decadent coffee.  As we got in the van for one last drive to the church, it seemed more quiet than usual – I’m not sure if it’s because the kids are back in school or because we knew this was our last time, there were fewer and quieter jambos out the window.

Today we offered 3 workshops: grant writing, documentation & reporting, and public speaking.  We made Lauren (public speaking) go last because we were all afraid to speak after she taught about best practices in public speaking.  We thought everyone might be critiquing our skills as we spoke.  Yes, we are just like the chickens we saw running around the front yards in many of the homes we passed along the way to the church.

Our final day was a huge praise and worship time where we danced and worshipped like no one was watching.  Many prayers went back and forth between our Ugandan family and our US family.  It was a bittersweet day filled with songs and dance yet knowing this was goodbye for now.

After a relatively quick lunch at the mission house, we headed to the bus and departed for Kampala.  We enjoyed a final meal as a team before 2 of us departed for the airport while the others had a good night’s rest before heading to our cultural days in Murchison Falls.
