A prayer and thought from first arriving in Uganda…
Really? Me, Lord? You can’t be serious. Who am I?
Eight of us are traveling to Bulike, Uganda. We begin this journey one by one, carrying anticipation, excitement, and open hearts—aware that God has already gone before us.
Some of us know one another; to others, we are strangers. Yet we are drawn together by a shared calling: to help build capacity for Uganda Counseling and Support Services under the faithful leadership of Dr. Ronald and his wife, Rona.
As we travel and talk, God begins to reveal the beauty of community. We start to understand who we are—and what it means to be a team. Our gifts are varied: a doctor, two lawyers, a social worker, an emergency management official, and grandparents. Different skills. One purpose. All called.
At times, the strength of this team feels overwhelming. I find myself asking, What can I really offer? Am I enough? And then the deeper question settles in my heart: Am I God’s ambassador? Where do I see God’s ambassadors at work around me?
By the time we arrive at the Mission House, the answer is gentle but clear. I can be God’s ambassador—not on my own, but as part of this body of believers. We are not meant to make this journey complicated or burdensome. We are here to listen, to serve, and to walk alongside trusted leaders in support of the life-giving mission of Uganda Counseling and Support Services.
God loves me.
God loves this team.
God loves the people of Uganda.
I am drawn into the words of John Wesley’s Covenant Prayer: I am no longer my own, but Yours. In that surrender, I find peace and purpose.
God’s ambassadors are already at work.
So I pray:
How will You use us today, Lord?
Put us to what You will—each new day.
