Starting something new can be uncomfortable. And feeling connected to others helps us feel like we’re part of something bigger than ourselves.

A couple had signed up to participate in a small group, attended once, and had not shown up for several weeks. One of the group members contacted the couple via phone and invited them to join the next group meeting. Not only did the couple attend the next group session, but they also continued coming and became great friends with the group member who made the personal ask. Outside of their small group, they often go out together doing a variety of activities such as volunteering, listening to jazz music and enjoying dinner theater.

Small groups can become fertile ground for meaningful connections to grow. As members interact, share, and support one another, their bonds deepen, creating a sense of belonging and community that exists inside and outside the small group.
