Dear Resurrection Family,

It’s going to be another terrific summer weekend here at Resurrection! Tonight, about 500 Resurrection members from across all nine locations are heading out to watch the Royals take on the Dodgers! I’m excited to be at the K for this event. We’ve still got some tickets in our sections available here.

This weekend’s sermon will conclude our series on Director’s Cut: Where Faith Meets Film by looking for the gospel in film based on the second highest grossing Broadway musical in history. We’ll show the film free at Resurrection OP, Brookside and Leawood. More on that below.

YOU COULD HELP BUILD COMMUNITY AS A SMALL GROUP HOST

You’ll hear more about this in worship this weekend, but I want to personally ask you if you would consider being a Small Group Host in the fall. If you love bringing people together and want to help create a community where everyone belongs, this could be your next step. It’s easier than you think, and we’ll equip you with everything you need to help create a space where people can share life, explore faith questions, and support each other through the ups and downs. Stop by the tables after worship this weekend where our adult discipleship staff would love to meet you and answer any questions you may have. You can also learn more on the website here.

We also have opportunities for Online Hosts to guide our online Small Groups and Geo Groups. This is an opportunity to shepherd others through life’s challenges and celebrations while developing your own leadership gifts in a supportive, mission-driven environment as we build a connected online community. STUDENT MINISTRIES FALL REGISTRATION OPENS JULY 1

Registration opens July 1 for our fall Student Ministry programs. We have amazing programs, with awesome staff and volunteers at all locations that include Confirmation for 8-12 graders, Sunday Morning Discipleship Groups, and Wednesday Night Youth Group. There’s a place just for you, so register starting next Tuesday here.

CELEBRATING OUR SCHOOL MAKEOVER AND COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT

Work is wrapping up today at our annual School Makeover event. Thank you to the more than 400+ volunteers who helped make it a success. When school starts, the students, staff and families at Woodland Early Learning Center and the Global Academy in the Kansas City, Missouri School District will be welcomed back to renovate classrooms and spaces that inspire them to learn and grow. This is part of our 2030 Vision at Resurrection of strengthening preschool education in low-income communities.

In addition, a revitalized community garden, created in partnership with Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center and Kansas City Community Gardens, will provide students with hands-on learning experiences and fresh vegetables to encourage healthy eating habits. You can learn more about how to get involved in our local mission ministries throughout the year on the website: resurrection.church/local. Thanks also to KMBC Channel 9, who came out to see the project and share the story. You can see it here. Below are a few photos from the project: some of our volunteers, the finished community garden, and the freshly painted large multipurpose room.

THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL RUMMAGE SALE!

A big shout out goes to our United Women of Faith and everyone who volunteered, donated items for the sale, and shopped at this successful annual event. This massive effort involved 5 months of planning, 217 volunteers, 7 days of prep, sale and clean-up, 77 donation pick-ups, and hundreds of donation drop-offs. The rummage sale raised $42,108, and the profits will bless many nonprofits in Kansas City who are serving women, children and youth. Grant recipients will be announced later this year on the United Women of Faith’s website here. Thank you for supporting another successful event that will impact our community!

DEDICATED SECURITY TEAM KEEPING US SAFE

Recently, staff, volunteers and congregants recognized and reported a potential security threat in one of our services. It proved not to be a threat, but our security volunteers did an amazing job assessing and managing the situation. I am grateful for our trained staff, volunteers and local law enforcement officers who work each weekend to ensure Resurrection is a welcoming and safe place. This serves as a reminder to all of us that if you see something, say something. You can report any concerns you have to a member of our staff.

GRATEFUL FOR TOM LANGHOFER!

As the month ends, Rev. Tom Langhofer is retiring from his position as Pastor of Resurrection Recovery. I want to express my deepest gratitude for this amazing man. Leaving his job after eight years serving as the leader of our Recovering Ministries. His impact has been far reaching as he has helped grow our Resurrection Recovery Ministry to include over 1,500 participants weekly in our various recovery ministries across our locations. As Tom retires, Bethany DePugh has stepped into the role of Lead Director and Jeff Lady has stepped into the role of Recovery Coordination Director. Thank you, Tom, for all you have done to bring healing and hope to so many people!

THIS WEEK’S PODCAST: LEARNING TO FORGIVE WHEN SOMEONE YOU LOVE DOES THE UNTHINKABLE

This week’s podcast explores forgiveness and features an honest conversation with Bob and Kelly Pascuzzi about unthinkable tragedy and why forgiveness is not just a spiritual concept, but the most essential life skill you’ll ever learn. I’ll share six words that can save any relationship and why your hardest questions might actually strengthen your faith. You can listen to or watch the podcast by clicking here.

HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE ROYALS GAME TONIGHT!

Once inside, make sure you stop by the Resurrection table by Gate A (left field), where we’ll have a special gift for you and you can enter a drawing for an autographed Bobby Witt, Jr. baseball. I’m looking forward to a fun night at the ballpark!

In Christ’s love,

Adam
