Ash Wednesday services at all Resurrection locations will be held on schedule today.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
Dear Resurrection Family,
We had a great week at Resurrection as we welcomed 2500 church leaders for our annual Leadership Institute. Joining us in-person, online and from small groups across the country, these pastors and lay leaders were inspired and encouraged. Thank you to all of our volunteers and staff, and all who prayed for this event, you helped make this year’s Leadership Institute possible. I am grateful that you are a church that is committed to encouraging, supporting and strengthening other churches.
Rev. Dr. Kevin Murriel will be our guest preacher this weekend. Dr. Murriel currently leads over 7,000 members as Senior Pastor of Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the largest predominantly African American churches in the US. Kevin preached here in July, and he was one of our keynote speakers at LI this week. I love his heart for Christ and his heart for the church.
Don’t forget to bring your Bible to follow along and a pen and paper for notes. Invite a friend to join you for worship in person on Sundays at 9 or 11 am at any of our five locations, or Sunday 5 pm at Leawood. You can also worship online at cor.org at 5 pm Saturday, 7:30, 9 or 11 am or 5 pm Sunday, and on television at KMCI Channel 38 at 8 and 11 am.
Beginning October 17
For those of you who prefer an early morning worship time and have been worshipping at 7:30 am online or 8 am on television, we will be trying an early Sunday service for four weeks, beginning Sunday, October 17, in the Foundry (Building B) of our Leawood location. We want to see what kind of interest and response there is to this service. Worship will be led by a pastor and musicians, and the sermon will be via video, as it is at our other locations. If you are an early morning person and ready to return to in-person worship, I hope you’ll join us for this service and then stick around for a Sunday class or just to share fellowship with friends in the Café.

Did you know that Church of the Resurrection has preschools at our Leawood and Overland Park locations? This fall they reopened with a mission to provide an opportunity for children to develop a lifelong love of learning in a loving, accepting, faith-based community. Our Overland Park location has a full-time, year-round school. Our Leawood location is a part-time preschool that runs during the school year. Both use a curriculum that offers a variety of developmentally appropriate experiences in art, music and movement, science, literature, and math, as well as a Christian foundation through prayers, Bible stories and songs. If you have friends of neighbors who might be interested in these programs, you can learn more at cor.org/preschool.
Our Overland Park school is also hiring! We have full-time, benefits eligible teacher positions available, along with flexible, part-time classroom helper positions (age 16 and older). Email OverlandPark.ELC@cor.org for more details or visit cor.org/employment.
Registration closes Monday, but we still have a few openings for the Annual Resurrection Golf Tournament on Monday, October 18, at Country Club of Leawood. All proceeds support Resurrection’s Mobile Food Pantry.

Don’t forget, Resurrection members can request complimentary virtual tickets (normally $75) to the American Public Square program on Tuesday, October 5, at 6:30 pm. Harvard researcher Robert Putnam, author of the New York Times bestseller Bowling Alone and The Upswing: How America Came Together a Century Ago and How We Can Do It Again is this year’s featured speaker, and the event will be streamed from Resurrection Leawood.
If you usually attend my Tuesday Vespers, this Tuesday I’ll be attending the American Public Square event mentioned above, to hear Robert Putnam. I’d like to invite you to join me too. While the tickets are $75, the American Public Square is allowing my vesper’s followers to request free tickets and to join in. It won’t be able to be streamed live on Facebook – you’ll have to join by reserving your complimentary ticket by clicking here.
Due October 11
If you’ve ever considered serving in a leadership role at Resurrection, see if this interests you. We are looking for a diverse group of people who are committed to the mission and ministry of our church to serve beginning in 2022 on our Finance, Trustees, Staff Parish Relations, Foundation and Nominations committees, and as Lay Delegates to Annual Conference.
Okay, that’s all the news I have time to share with you today. I’m really excited about worship this weekend and Leadership Institute next week! And so very proud of you, Church of the Resurrection!
In Christ’s Love,
Adam
