Scheduled programming will resume this evening, December 2nd, for all Resurrection locations.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
Dear Resurrection Family,
As I’m preparing my sermon for this weekend, I’m also preparing for a Memorial Service tomorrow celebrating the life of one of our long-time members, Nancy Brown. I don’t typically mention memorial services here as we have multiple deaths each week (nine this week alone), but on occasion there is someone whose impact has been so foundational here that I want to make sure you know. Nancy Brown’s impact on our congregation was profound.
Nancy passed away at the beginning of our COVID quarantine, and her family chose to wait to celebrate her life when many of her friends could safely attend. Nancy served in so many pivotal roles here, but it was her passion for global missions that led us, as a congregation, to be engaged in Russia and Ukraine, Zambi, Zimbabwe, Congo and South Africa as well as Honduras and many others. During my last visit with her at the hospital, just before she died, she was still talking about new visions for missions. During my Vespers this Tuesday on Facebook Live, I’ll be sharing an interview we did with Nancy in 2017 following her diagnosis with terminal cancer. It is inspiring and profound. Nancy’s memorial service will be tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 am in the Leawood Sanctuary.
We’ll continue our study of Luke’s gospel this weekend in worship. 40% of Luke’s gospel recounts Jesus’ final journey to Jerusalem which will climax in his crucifixion. It was the setting for some of his most important teaching and some remarkable encounters with people. This weekend we’ll quickly mention three of the most important teachings of Jesus that occur on the journey, as well as his encounter with ten lepers and a short, very rich, chief tax collector named Zacchaeus. Don’t miss this weekend in worship! Amazing music, meaningful prayer, and a message that I know will speak to you from Jesus’ most important teachings, and two incredible encounters with people on his way to Jerusalem. In the years ahead, I plan to preach live at each of our locations at least once a year. This week I will be preaching in person at our West location in Olathe Sunday morning at 9 and 11 am, and then will be back to our Leawood location at 5 pm. My message will be via video at Leawood’s morning services, as it is each weekend all of our other locations. I am excited to see all of you at our Resurrection West location!

Each day, the GPS (Grow, Pray, Study Guide) that we email you has a video reflection, a section of Luke’s gospel to read, a short devotional to read and a song by our COR Worship Collective. I’m finding these are a really powerful way to start each day. If you don’t currently receive the GPS, sign up here. Here’s the YouTube link to listen to the worship music that has accompanied the GPS during Lent.
Earlier this month, Leawood, Overland Park and Blue Springs held our confirmation services. This Sunday in worship, we will confirm students at our Downtown and West locations. In confirmation, these young people are publicly accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior and committing to follow Jesus as a member of Church of the Resurrection. Here is the list of students, click to open, print it if you’d like, and then pray for these students as they take this important step in their spiritual journeys.
This week we are recognizing our members who have had perfect and near perfect worship attendance in 2021. Thank you for your commitment and faithfulness. We know we have more people worshiping each weekend than the actual number of those who take the time to register attendance, but I do want to recognize those of you who took the time to register your attendance each week. We have a 2021 worship sticker for you to place on your name tags that you can pick up at worship this weekend. Here is the list of names.
If you attended 90% of the time but your name is not listed, you are in good company. I missed one Sunday in 2021, but apparently failed to always sign in. If that was you, click here to let us know and we will add you to the list and make sure you get your faithful in worship 2021 sticker for your name tag.
Check out the names of those with high attendance in 2021! →
The annual Resurrection Easter Egg Hunt is from 10 am – noon on Saturday, April 9. The Leawood, West, Overland Park and Blue Springs events will be on their church sites, and Downtown’s will be on the grounds of the World War I Museum and Memorial in KCMO. This free, family-friendly event is for kids of every age and features an egg hunt, crafts and fun-filled activities. Bring your basket and a few friends! If would be great if you can RSVP here and let us know you’re coming so we can plan the number of eggs we will need. Plus, if you RSVP, you’ll be entered in a drawing for fabulous family prize packages.
All this month we’ve been sharing opportunities to get involved with our Global Impact Ministries: GROWING by learning through the Bridging Cultures podcast, GOING on a Global Serve Trip, and this weekend, GIVING by investing in the future of students in our Global Partner Schools through education sponsorships.
Resurrection supports Global Partner Schools in Malawi, Honduras and South Africa. We believe that education translates to hope in any language, and statistics show that education breaks the cycle of poverty. I hope you’ll take a few minutes and learn more about these schools and consider sponsorship if that is something you feel called to do. For less than $40 a month you can sponsor an individual child or an entire classroom.
If you worship with us in person this weekend, we will have global ministry volunteers at all locations after worship to answer any questions you may have and get connected with our Global Impact Ministries.
