Weekly Update from Pastor Adam - July 24, 2026

Sometimes we find ourselves settling for what’s safe, predictable and comfortable. But we were made for more – more purpose, more impact and more life with God. Over the next three weeks, as the summer starts to wind down and we prepare to ramp up for the fall, we invite you to consider how the Holy Spirit might be leading you into the future. Each weekend we’ll look to what the scriptures teach us and you’ll meet volunteers who have done something new and experienced what it’s like to live a spirit-filled life that impacts others. Join us for Made for Move and explore what happens when you stop holding back and start saying yes to the Holy Spirit.

This weekend we’ll also be sharing some of the ways you can be part of our worship teams. From the tech team that helps with lights, sound, graphics and cameras, to the traditional modern worship music teams, to the people who extend hospitality as greeters, ushers and communion servers, it takes many volunteers to make worship services happen each week. If any of that sounds like something you might be called to do, we have a position, place and time for everyone. CHRISTMAS AT RESURRECTION ADVANCE TICKETS – BOGO!

Christmas at Resurrection, Dec. 10-13, is a cherished holiday tradition at Resurrection. With the sights and sounds of the season and the traditional telling of the birth of Christ in a majestic, musical setting, you won’t want to miss this annual musical production. This year’s theme is Anticipation, and it’s all about that sense of waiting and looking forward that’s so much a part of the Christmas story. Beginning this Sunday, July 26, through Sunday, Aug. 2, we’re offering a buy one, get one free ticket sale. Don’t miss this opportunity! Bring a friend, family member, or neighbor and plan ahead now so you’ve got it on the calendar for the holidays. ANNUAL SPECIAL SUMMER BAPTISM SERVICE AT LEAWOOD SUNDAY

If you have never been baptized and would like to be, we have a special opportunity each summer. This Sunday, July 26, you can be baptized either by immersion in the memorial garden baptism pool or by sprinkling in the Wesley Chapel. We’ll gather in the Wesley Chapel at 2 pm. For those wishing to be baptized by immersion, it’s recommended you wear a swimsuit with a dark t-shirt. You can register by emailing here, but walk-ins are welcome. SUPPORTING OUR PARTNER SCHOOLS 

If you purchased school supplies for our partner schools, don’t forget to return your bag with the requested items to a Resurrection location by July 27. You can still support our partner schools by donating school supplies, sponsoring a classroom, or volunteering in a classroom. Learn more about these opportunities here. Our mission team shared that they have more people interested in volunteering in one of our schools than ever before. That is awesome! Investing in the education of a child is one of the greatest ways you can impact the future, and I know you will be blessed by the experience! LAST WEEKEND TO WORSHIP IN GANO CHAPEL IN LIBERTY

This Sunday will be Resurrection Liberty’s last worship service in Gano Chapel on the William Jewell campus before our northland campus moves to Woodneath Auditorium. As we look forward to moving to our new worship home in the Northland at 8900 NE Flintlock Road, we are grateful for the support from William Jewell that helped us launch a location in Liberty. If you live in Liberty, join us for the final service at William Jewel and then take the next step with us at Woodneath Auditorium.

JOIN ME FOR RESURRECTION NIGHT AT THE DRIVE-IN THURSDAY 

When was the last time you went to the drive-in? This was a fun family activity for us when our kids were small. This Thursday you’ll have a chance to relive the experience, or perhaps have the experience for the first time, and, in you have kids of grandkids, for them to experience the joy of the drive-in. LaVon and I are planning to stop by and enjoy the experience as people from all Resurrection locations join the fun at the Boulevard Drive-In, 1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, KS for Resurrection Night at the Movies. I want to thank you for your continued support of Resurrection through your presence, prayers and gifts. Our finance team have shared with me that our giving has continued steady through the summer. I am so grateful to you for your faithful support of our mission and ministry even as I’ve been out. I’m so proud of you.

Some of the joys of the last two months are meeting people I never would have met otherwise, visiting places I have never been, and seeking to live what I’ve preached in a very different role. One day this week I spent the morning at Lakemary Center in Paola – a school founded by Catholic nuns in 1969 for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I was so moved by the experience and the people, which ties so closely to our Matthew’s Ministry. I felt the Holy Spirit’s presence when I was with the residents and staff at Lakemary, as I do in our Matthew’s Ministry.

I was in a bar last night (not a line a pastor usually leads with!🙂) meeting with people. Some came to hear what I’m up to, but there were six or seven who just happened to be there for a drink. I had a chance to connect and hear their thoughts and their stories, which moved me.

In another community, a father and his three young adult daughters stopped to talk. I learned their mother was battling a serious illness, and we paused to pray for their mom’s safekeeping and care.

I could not do this without LaVon by my side. She’s been my rock, and we’ve grown closer than ever. Many of you have told me you are praying daily for us. Thank you. I can’t tell you what that means. At times in the last two months LaVon and I have each felt discouraged, but then we’ll find, often I believe in response to your prayers, we are filled with courage, and strength and joy.

Finally, everywhere I go, I tell of some of the amazing things you’ve done to impact the world – the book mobile, food you give away, the beds ministry, the work in the schools, the mobile dental clinic and our kindness campaigns aimed at bringing people together and overcoming polarization.

I love you, Resurrection, and I am deeply grateful and proud of who you are.
