Weekly Update from Pastor Adam - July 31, 2026

Dear Resurrection Family,
Last night LaVon and I had the joy of hanging out at the Boulevard Drive-In with Resurrection members and guests from all of our locations. It was such a beautiful night and fun to see so many families out, and to hear so many of the kids, and some adults, who had never been to the drive-in before!
This weekend, we’ll continue our sermon series Made for More as we explore what it means to say yes to the Holy Spirit and live a spirit-filled life that impacts others. I found last weekend’s sermon deeply moving.

THIS WEEKEND IN WORSHIP: MADE FOR MORE: WHEN THE SPIRIT GROWS YOU

This week we’ll focus on When the Spirit Grows You. As followers of Jesus, we’re not meant to stay the same. The power of the Holy Spirit can transform us, but that means that we often need to take new steps to grow in our faith and fully become what God intends us to be. As we prepare for the launch of our fall discipleship programs, this is a great opportunity to think about how you might take next steps to study and serve as you grow in your faith. Pastor Joshua Clough, Lead Director of Discipleship and Kids and Families, will be preaching at Leawood, online and on television, and our location pastors will share the message at their respective locations.

THIS WEEKEND: RESURRECTION LIBERTY MOVES TO WOODNEATH AUDITORIUM

This will be the first weekend of worship at our new Resurrection Liberty location in the Northland at Woodneath Auditorium, an amazing facility that is part of the Mid-Continent Public Library located at 8900 NE Flintlock Road in Kansas City, MO. The auditorium, just off Hwy 152, offers great parking, modern technology, and excellent accessibility that will help us create an amazing worship experience for everyone who comes through the door. We are officially inviting the community to join us on August 16 through our promotion and advertising, so share this with your friends, family, and neighbors in the Northland. The next two weekends will be our “soft-launch” services as we get settled in this new space, so join us to be part of this special next step in Liberty.

FALL MINISTRY KICKOFFS

As we prepare to kick off our fall ministry programs for adults, students and children. we’ll have a handout this weekend that highlights some of those programs and opportunities. I did want to mention two things:
Small Groups: Sign-ups are open now and through the rest of the month for small groups. You can go to our website here and look for a group that fits you best, either in person or online. All of these groups officially start the week of Sept. 2. Our small group nights include a weekly meal before groups and classes begin, including those for kids and students, so that you and your whole family could grab a bite to eat together and make a night of it. Resurrection is a big church, which means two things: First, we have a lot of opportunities and a place for everyone. And second, it’s important to find a small group of people who you can connect with, learning, serving and growing together while you support and care for one another.
Kickoff Event Wed., Aug. 26: At each of our locations, we’ll kick off the fall at a big outdoor block party with dinner, music, and games, so bring friends and check it out. This will be a great time to learn more about fall opportunities and get started. Learn more and register here.

GEO GROUPS FOR ONLINE CONGREGANTS

If you are a part of Resurrection and live outside the Kansas City area, I encourage you to check out our Geo Groups. These groups host monthly in-person gatherings across the US. Led by volunteers, they offer an opportunity to connect with fellow Resurrection online worshipers in your area for social activities, community service or a combination of both. You can go here to find a group, or maybe sign up and be a host if there isn’t one in your area.

TRADITIONAL MUSIC KICKOFF AUG. 5 AT RESURRECTION LEAWOOD

We’re kicking off the new season of traditional music at Resurrection Leawood on Wednesday, August 5. If you’re interested, join the team for pizza at 5:45 pm in the narthex (Building A), and then head into the Sanctuary for a night of singing and learning about all of our traditional music ensembles, including opportunities for kids and youth. Details here.

This coming week is Kansas’ primary. Please pray for all the candidates and their families, including LaVon and me. Whatever the outcome, it has been a joy to traverse the state, meeting new people, and speaking up for things I care deeply about.

In Christ’s love,

Adam
P.S. Some have asked what my role would be at the church if I’m elected to the U.S. Senate in November. As our Staff-Parish Relations Committee shared with you when I made my decision to become a candidate (see the FAQs here), my full-time commitment would shift to the Senate and the responsibilities of serving as a Senator. However, as is the case with other clergy who have served, or currently serve, in Congress, I would be available on many weekends for preaching, mentoring of leaders, and pastoral care, while the day-to-day leadership of the church will be handled by other pastors and members of the executive team.
