Dear Resurrection Family,
I hope you have had a terrific week. This week, I spent time each morning on long prayer walks. I read and wrote an endorsement for a new book on the 12 Steps. I spent a bit of time working on our Summer Revival sermon series for July. I enjoyed sharing vespers from the lake this last Tuesday night (if you missed it, check it out here on YouTube – I think you’ll find it inspirational). And yesterday, I completed the final revisions to a book I’ve been working on called, Wrestling with Doubt, Finding Faith – it is a short book aimed at addressing many of the doubts common to most people. With Juneteenth in mind, I’ve also been listening to the Audible version of The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and I just started reading Geraldine Brooks novel, Horse. This weekend we’re celebrating LaVon’s birthday with our kids here at the lake.

I’m grateful for this time away in the summer – part vacation, part study, part outlining sermons and writing, along with time to pray, worship, read, fill up my idea banks, and to dream. I’ll be back in the pulpit for our summer revival in a couple of weeks.

THIS WEEKEND IN WORSHIP – “GENEROSITY: GOD’S ECONOMY”

This weekend, we’ll continue our sermon series called Becoming Better by focusing on the spiritual practice of generosity, not only toward God, but cultivating the rhythm of generosity in our daily lives. Generosity and giving are mentioned over 1,000 times in the Bible. Some of these passages focus on God’s generosity to us. While other passages reflect God’s call to be generous toward the poor. Some speak of giving to God, and others speak to the generosity we show to each other. Generosity was an important part of Jesus’ teaching and is one of the spiritual practices that has the power to transform our lives and draw us near to God. Pastor Scott Chrostek will be preaching at Leawood, Online and on TV, and each of our location pastors will be preaching in person at their locations. If you’re in town, please join them.

If you’re traveling this summer, you can find all the ways and times to worship with us online at resurrection.church/worship.

By the way, if you have missed church the last few weeks, you’ve missed out on meaningful worship and some terrific sermons. You can find the sermons from the Becoming Better series here.

There will be no vespers this coming Tuesday night as LaVon and I are taking a two-day road trip. The following Tuesday is the 4th of July, and we’ll be enjoying a cookout and fireworks with friends. Vespers will return on July 11!
