Due to potentially damaging weather this afternoon and evening, the children’s musical and pre-show events in the Leawood Sanctuary have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
Dear Resurrection Family,
While the World Cup has been exciting in Kansas City, our sermon series, A Beautiful Game, A Beautiful Life, has been just as inspiring. So far, we’ve explored lessons from soccer for following Jesus and experiencing the life we were made for – lessons on the importance of training and practice, rhythm and structure, and teamwork and sharing. This weekend, we’ll conclude the series by examining how, just like it all comes together with a goal in soccer, God calls us to GOAL – Go Out And Love One Another, and this is when we fully experience the beautiful life. If the GOAL theme sounds familiar, it’s because this is also the theme for our children’s Vacation Bible Camp this year. Join us for this powerful message this weekend, and if you haven’t registered your children or grandchildren for VBC yet, do it here today so they don’t miss out on this amazing week.
We have some great sermons coming up in July, so make plans to be in worship if you’re in town, or join us online if you are traveling.
July 5 – Guest Preacher Rev. Olu Brown
My friend Olu Brown is the founding pastor of Impact Church – a United Methodist congregation in Atlanta, where he led a launch team of just 25 people into one of the fastest-growing Methodist congregations in the country. He now leads Normalizing Next, equipping churches, organizations, and leaders to navigate change and embrace the future with clarity and confidence. Olu is an author, speaker, leadership coach, and one of the most engaging communicators you’ll hear. You won’t want to miss next weekend. I know you’ll be encouraged by his message and inspired by his perspective.
July 12 and 19 – Finding the Gospel in Film
Join us for these Weekend Rentals: Finding the Gospel in Family Movie Night, when we focus on finding the Gospel message in some of the biggest box office hits from the past year. This will culminate in a Resurrection night at the drive-in on Thursday, July 30, where we’ll see, How to Train Your Dragon!
If you’ve had baked goods from Resurrection’s Spring Café, you know how delicious these items are – maybe because they’re baked with love. Adults with special needs enrolled in the Sonflower Adult Learning Program bake cookies, breads, scones, and more, sharing their gifts with the Resurrection community and local events. Their baked goods are already a staple at the Spring Café, and now you can bring them to your next gathering. A new online ordering format makes placing a special order more convenient than ever. Click here to learn more about Sunflower Bakery and place an order online for your next event.
Part of Resurrection’s Vision 2030 to help “close the gaps” between the world as it is and a world that looks more like the kingdom of God is our focus on closing the Kindness and Justice Gap. One of the ways we’ve worked to do that is through kindness initiatives every two years. We choose a theme found in scripture, but which nearly everyone can embrace, related to kindness. We hope to create a movement where people are intentional about loving and caring for one another. Exciting plans are underway for this year with the theme from John 13:34: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Here’s the logo you’ll start seeing throughout the community.

Our official kick-off at Resurrection this year is August 30, when you’ll have the opportunity to purchase t-shirts, signs, flags and decals to personally display and spread the message of Love One Another. To help our team ensure we have the materials in the quantities we need, would you take a minute and complete this simple survey here? This is not an order form; we’ll have the merchandise available at our locations for you to purchase after worship, beginning August 30, but this will help us manage our inventory.
Resurrection has a float that will share the message of Love One Another in Independence Day parades in Leawood and Stillwell, Kansas. If you’re in these communities, come out and share the fun. We need a few people who are willing to walk along the float (about 1 mile) and hand out Love One Another stickers and candy to the crowd. The Leawood parade begins at 10 am (line up at 9 am), and Stillwell is at 6 pm (line up at 5 pm). If you are interested in participating, you can email Cathy Bien. Later this year, we’ll also have opportunities for you to participate in Fall parades and events at some of our other locations.
Speaking of parades, Resurrection Downtown had a front row seat to the Netherlands’ Oranje Walk. Check out this social media post and the message we are sharing from the roof of our downtown location. (Click to enlarge.)

I am so grateful for you, Resurrection, and proud of who you are and how you live the gospel!
