Dear Resurrection Family,

It’s not officially spring yet, but today begins Spring Break for many students in our congregation. If you are traveling for Spring Break, worship at a church near you, or join us at Resurrection online. St. Patrick’s Day is also this week, on March 17. In honor of the great patron saint of Ireland, I’ll include at the end of my note a portion of the famous prayer of St. Patrick. I love this prayer and think you’ll find it meaningful to pray it today (and again on St. Patrick’s Day!).

THIS WEEKEND – ARE WE LIVING IN THE LAST DAYS?

I’m looking forward to being back in the pulpit this weekend as we continue to explore the Final Week of Jesus’ life as described by the gospel of Matthew. This weekend I’ll pick up where Pastor Scott left off last week, turning to Matthew 24, where Jesus foretells the temple’s destruction, and a time of devastation before his return. We’ll then turn to Matthew 25, and one of Jesus’ most famous parables describing the Last Judgement. Finally, we’ll end by looking at the ten verses Matthew includes on what happened on Wednesday of Holy Week – Jesus’ anointing and betrayal. Are we living in the last days? Will you be ready when Christ returns? What does it mean to be ready? Don’t miss this weekend’s worship as we study Matthew 24, 25 and 26!

VACATION BIBLE CAMP REGISTRATION OPENS SUNDAY

Vacation Bible Camp is a summer highlight for our children and community. This amazing weeklong VBC for elementary-aged kids runs from July 12 through July 18 at all of our area Resurrection locations, and given that Kansas City is a host site for the upcoming World Cup, we couldn’t think of a better theme than GOAL – which stands for Go Out And Love. SERVE SATURDAY MARCH 21

Next week is our monthly Serve Saturday, when we gather together to do something tangible for our Kansas City neighbors. The opportunities are flexible and welcoming, and you’ll have a chance to connect with other folks from Resurrection while making a real difference right here in the metro. LENTEN CONCERT WEDNESDAY

Our midday concert on March 18 features the Resurrection String Trio. The concert starts at 12:15 pm in the Leawood Sanctuary and online here. Lunch is available for purchase in the Spring Café before the concert, beginning at 11 am.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENT ATHLETES

If you are an athlete in 8th through 12th grade, I want to encourage you to join us for Championship Week: A Student Athlete Bible Study. This 4-week study on Tuesdays beginning March 24 connects the final week of Jesus’s life to the world of competition, teamwork, and what it means to lead with integrity. Led by Matt Williams, a former Duke and Chicago Cubs Minor League baseball player, each session digs into the events of Holy Week and draws out the questions every athlete faces: Where does your identity come from when the crowd turns? How do you respond when a teammate betrays your trust? What does it look like to compete with confidence when everything feels like it’s falling apart? This isn’t just a Bible study, it’s a conversation about faith, sports, and the kind of athlete and person you want to be. EMPLOYMENT OPENINGS AT RESURRECTION

Have you ever felt like you wanted your work to have meaning and make a difference? Resurrection has a number of employment openings that you might want to explore on our website at resurrection.church/employment. One that I’d like to draw your attention to is the Lead Director of Finance and Accounting opening. This position partners with ministry and operations staff to ensure high-quality accounting support, financial analysis, and faithful stewardship of resources in alignment with the church’s mission and values. EASTER WORSHIP SERVICES

As you begin making your plans for Easter worship, I wanted to share that we will be having children’s interactive services on the Saturday of Easter weekend, and we’ll have Saturday evening services at Leawood and West. In addition to our regular Sunday morning service times, we’ll also have 7 am sunrise services at several locations, and Downtown’s Easter worship services will be at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. BREASTPLATE PRAYER OF ST. PATRICK

St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century after being enslaved on the island as a youth. The shamrock, a symbol of the holiday, comes from St. Patrick, who used its three leaves to explain the Christian Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). There is a prayer/hymn attributed to St. Patrick. Below are two of the most loved verses.
