Dear Resurrection Family,

Graduations are in full swing! As you read this, we will have just held Saint Paul School of Theology’s commencement in our Wesley Chapel. Last night, Center High School in Kansas City, Missouri, celebrated its graduation in our Leawood Sanctuary. It was a joyous event and reminded me of how grateful I am that you are a church that welcomes our community. Our buildings are tools meant to serve others. I’m including photos below. Congratulations to all of our graduates, high school, college and graduate school!

WORSHIP THIS WEEKEND – SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN

This week, I invited you to take a survey regarding forgiveness. Over 2,000 of you have taken it so far. We learned that all of us struggle with forgiveness sometimes. I’ll share some of the results in my sermon this weekend, including how our willingness to forgive changes as we age, how often and what couples fight about, the five leading causes of divorce, the one person 89% of us said we struggle to forgive, and more.

We’ll look at Paul’s words I’ve shared at nearly 400 weddings over the years, and Jesus’ words to Peter telling him we must forgive not just seven times, but seventy times seven. Did Jesus intend for us to be doormats? We’ll look at forgiveness in marriage, forgiveness in daily life, and I’ll end the sermon sharing part of a most remarkable interview I had this week with Scott Mosher, whose son, Officer Mike Mosher, was killed in the line of duty five years ago. We’ll hear how he came to forgive his son’s killer.

Invite your friends who may be struggling with forgiveness, either accepting or extending it. I know they, and you, will be touched by this weekend’s message.

If you haven’t taken the survey, you can do so by clicking here.

FOCUS ON FORGIVENESS – SUMMIT MAY 30-31; CLASS IN JUNE

In addition to our sermon series on forgiveness, we will host a weekend focused on forgiveness called the Forgiveness Summit on May 30 and 31. This two-day event will focus on the power of forgiveness through meaningful worship and sessions led by guest speakers, including Dr. Henry Cloud, Tommy Spaulding, Mark Schultz, co-hosts Bob and Kelly Pascuzzi, and a panel discussion with remarkable people, including Scott Mosher who I mentioned above. I’ll be speaking on Friday night. This is definitely a weekend you won’t want to miss. Learn more about the Summit and register here.

Then in June, we’ll be offering a Forgiveness Study at each of our locations and online. The study will offer biblical guidance and practical wisdom to help you experience the freedom that comes through forgiveness. Check out and sign up for the class offerings at your location here.

MAY BLOOD DRIVES RESULTS

Thank you to everyone who donated blood this month at our Resurrection blood drives. You donated a grand total of 588 life-saving units of blood at the drives at Leawood, Blue Springs, Overland Park, West, Spring Hill, Downtown and Brookside. At a time when collections have been down regionally and nationally, these units potentially represent the gift of life for more than 1,600 individuals.

This week, you were also recognized by the Community Blood Center at their annual awards event. You were the “Top Collecting Organization of 2024,” contributing 3,009 units of blood. The rest of the top five included The University of Kansas Health System (1,127), Burns & McDonnell (877), Honeywell (822) and The University of Central Missouri (691). Our very own Ann Joyner, who started our blood drive 30 years ago, spoke. Since we launched the blood drives, you’ve donated 60,000 units of blood.

STUDENT MINISTRY SUMMER KICK-OFF JUNE 1

The school year may be ending, but our student ministry is gearing up for a summer full of student events. Middle and high school students from all Resurrection locations are invited to our kick-off event – a cookout on Sunday, June 1, from 5 to 8 pm! We’ll have good food, fun games, and lots of opportunities to make great memories with other students. You can join Resurrection students at either of the two locations: Lake Olathe Beaver Shelter in Kansas or Lake Jacomo Shelter #11 in Missouri. For more information, click here.

HAVE YOU REGISTERED YOUR KIDS FOR VACATION BIBLE CAMP?

Yesterday, I had the joy of joining in the fun filming videos for this summer’s Vacation Bible Camp, July 13-19. It’s going to be a blast. Our theme is Wild Kingdom, and our kids will not only learn about Jesus, but they’ll make new friends, participate in a service project and have a big family day at the Kansas City Zoo! It’s going to be awesome. Our kids will learn about Joy, Courage, Confidence and Peace that come through Jesus. We have different VBC options at our locations, with a Wild Kingdom Day at the Kansas City Zoo for all families on Saturday, July 19. Here’s the link to learn more and get signed up!

AFFIRMATIONS IS BACK THIS FALL AND YOU CAN BE PART OF IT!

If you are interested in singing in the Affirmations choir, we are now recruiting volunteers to be part of this meaningful and uplifting experience. No matter your experience level, if you have a passion for worship and music, we’d love to have you join us. Learn more and sign up to sing here.

LEAWOOD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction has begun on the outdoor recreation and fellowship space at the Leawood location, so the entrances to building C on the west side are not accessible. You can still enter the building from the Chapel and office entrances on the south and east sides of the building. If you’re interested, you can follow the progress with the video stream. Go to this webpage and click on the construction live view video.

THIS WEEK’S PODCAST: IS HOLDING GRUDGES DESTROYING YOUR HEALTH?

This week on my podcast, Making Sense of Faith, I interviewed world-renowned mental health expert Dr. Henry Cloud about the impact carrying a grudge and forgiving someone can have on our mental health. Many of you have read Dr. Henry Cloud’s books. I think you’ll love this interview. Dr. Cloud will be one of the featured speakers at our Forgiveness Summit, May 30-31, and our conversation is just a sample of some of the insight that he will be sharing at this event. I hope you’ll share this podcast with someone and invite them to join you at the Forgiveness Summit. You can listen or watch the podcast by clicking here, and sign up for the Summit here.

In Christ’s love,

Adam
