Daily Scripture

Colossians 1:15-20 (NRSV), John 1:1 (NRSV), and John 14:9 (NRSV)

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

[Jesus said to Philip,] “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

Daily Reflection & Prayer

Sometimes, as we feel the world is spinning around us, we need to ground ourselves and focus on God instead of the chaos. Prayer is our way to enter God’s presence to enjoy and benefit from our personal conversation with Father, Son, and Spirit. It can be hard to focus, and our minds can wander. I know that personally, I’ve been known to start in prayer and find myself wandering into my to-do list.
An affirmation of our Faith, like the Nicene Creed, can be a good tool to help us focus and settle into prayer. Reading out loud, reciting these words, can help us center our time with God. Giving our full attention to what we know about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, can block out the noise around us, and the noise in our heads and hearts. It describes the hearer of our prayers and helps us remember all that God has done to connect with us.
This week, as we learn more about this affirmation and what we can learn from it, try using it to being your prayer time. You can click on the link above if you want to read it out loud to begin your prayer time, or to end it with praise.
Prayer
Father, Son and Spirit, thank you for our unbreakable connection with you and the blessing of this time of prayer. Help us remember who you are, and what you have done for us. Hear our voices as we experience the amazing gift of time with you in prayer. Amen.
