Daily Scripture

Ephesians 2:1, 4-5, 8-10 (NIV)

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins… But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions… For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Daily Reflection & Prayer

The late Robert Mulholland, professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary, described the journey of following Jesus as “a process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others.” * He thought of it as an invitation to join God in the work God is doing in this world. This is a great summary of today’s Scripture. In what ways have you experienced becoming more like Jesus for the sake of others in your life? What might be getting in the way of you saying “yes” to God’s invitation?
I encourage you pray today’s Scripture to God:
Prayer
Wonderful and Holy God.
Thank you for your great love for me
Once I was dead in my transgressions and sins
But you met me where I was and invited me to follow you
In all the ways I’ve fallen short
In thought and word and deed
Let your mercy and grace fall on me
You make me alive in Christ
And I trust in you

You are rich in mercy
My salvation is a gift from you
I did not earn it
I cannot earn it
In all the ways I claim the glory for myself
In thought and word and deed
Let your mercy and grace fall on me
You make me alive in Christ
And I trust in you

I am your handiwork
Created in Christ Jesus to do good works
Strengthen me by your Spirit
To live for the sake of others
In thought and word and deed
To say “Yes” to your invitations today
Let your mercy and grace fall on me
You make me alive in Christ
And I trust in you

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
Amen.
