Daily Scripture

Exodus 12:21-22 (CEB), 1 Corinthians 5:7b (CEB), Jeremiah 31:31 (CEB), Luke 22:19b-20 (CEB), Matthew 20:28 (NIV)

Then Moses called together all of Israel’s elders and said to them, “Go pick out one of the flock for your families, and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood that is in the bowl, and touch the beam above the door and the two doorposts with the blood in the bowl.”

Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed.

The time is coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the people of Israel and Judah.

[Jesus said to them,] “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup after the meal and said, “This cup is the new covenant by my blood, which is poured out for you.

Jesus said to them,] “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a RANSOM for many.”

Daily Reflection & Prayer

Today’s Scripture covers three different expressions of what Jesus did on the cross when he died for us. They’re powerful pictures of God’s desire for us and this world. But how do we engage with these heady ideas? How do we connect them to our lived experience? I propose that as we pray thanks to God for these images of the atonement from scripture, even if we don’t fully understand them, God meets us in our payer. And time spent with God is always time well spent.
I invite you to pray this prayer in preparation for today’s message:

:

Prayer
Glorious and blessed God,
Thank you for saving me.
Jesus is the lamb without blemish
Sacrificed for me
That by His blood
The angel of death has passed over me.
Glorious and blessed God,
Thank you for saving me.
Jesus is the offering of the New Covenant
Sacrificed for me
That by His blood
Your word has been written on my heart
Glorious and blessed God,
Thank you for saving me.
Jesus is the the one who has paid my ransom price
Sacrificed for me
That by His blood
I am no longer a slave to sin
Glorious and blessed God,
Thank you for all the ways you save me.
That from a heart of gratitude and joy
I might understand what it means
To sacrifice for the sake of others
As you have done.
I pray all these things
In Your holy name
Amen.
