Daily Scripture

2 Timothy 1:5 (CEB), Romans 8:28 (CEB)

Timothy, I’m reminded of your authentic faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice. I’m sure that this faith is also inside you.

We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Daily Reflection & Prayer

I grew up in the church, but in 1991, I made a conscious decision to stop following Jesus. As a young man, my experiences with the American church had left me disillusioned and looking for answers elsewhere. In 2003, I surrendered myself again to Jesus and asked him to use me as he saw fit. During those twelve long years, my mother, who had been devoted to Jesus all my life, never stop praying for me and never stopped reminding me of the faith of my youth. She became a point of reference for me–a safe harbor I knew was always there even when I was far out at sea adrift and being tossed by the waves.
I thank God for my mother’s persistent witness to the power of God in her life.
Who are these people in your life? Who is the person you know who inspires you with how much like Jesus they are? Who is your safe harbor when you’re adrift? A parent? A pastor? A friend?
I invite you to picture this person (or persons) in your mind and hold them before God as you pray the following prayer. You may wish to pray this prayer once for each person who has been a safe harbor in your life.
Prayer
Wonderful and holy God,
Thank you that [name] is in my life.
Thank you for their life of testimony.
Thank you for how they inspire me to be more like you.
Thank you for the love and devotion they show you and how it pours out into the lives of others.
Help me to become a witness to your power for someone else.
Help me to grow in my love for you and for others.
Use me as you see fit again today and every day
That your will would be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Let it be so.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
