Due to potentially damaging weather this afternoon and evening, the children’s musical and pre-show events in the Leawood Sanctuary have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
God loves you. God loves me. God loves the whole world.
We know this as an indisputable Sunday School truth. Yet we often think of love as a feeling. The love Jesus modeled for us was always an action.
In my time here at Resurrection, I’ve seen again and again that what drives all of our various ministries is this central idea: “Love in action.”
This is what God showed us through Jesus—he gave his life so that we might know God. Love in action.
We see that same active love in Jesus’ care for the marginalized and forgotten of the first century. Love in action.
And the way Jesus loved others then is our model for how we love others now in the twenty-first century. Love in action.
In fact, it’s this active, sacrificial love that marks someone as a follower of Jesus.
Take a moment to think about a situation in your life where you’re struggling to love someone the way Jesus calls us to love. What might you do today to take one small step toward putting your love into action for that person?
God,
You are good and loving.
Thank you for the love you’ve shown me.
Thank you for all that Jesus has done for me.
Help me to love others the way you love me.
Move me beyond good thoughts and warm feelings.
Transform my good intentions into love in action.
By your grace, may your love flow through me to transform the world.
Let it be so. Amen.
