Prayer Tip--The Kind of Freedom That Sets Us Free

July 7, 2024
SHARE

Daily Scripture

Galatians 5:13, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Exodus 3:12b (CEB)

You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only don’t let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses but serve each other through love.

The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Lord’s Spirit is, there is freedom.

…After you bring the people out of Egypt, you will come back here and worship God on this mountain.”

Daily Reflection & Prayer

With Independence Day barely in the rearview mirror, the word “freedom” is on the lips and minds of many this weekend. With this in mind, I invite you to pray this prayer today:

Prayer
Creator God
Jesus Redeemer
Sustaining Holy Spirit
Thank you for the freedoms I experience in this life.
Where your Spirit is, there is freedom.

You, God, are the source of all freedom
The very idea of freedom flows from your grace
That I might choose what I do next is your grace
That I might choose to do good… or not… is your grace
This astounding freedom is a gift of your grace
Where your Spirit is, there is freedom.

You, Jesus, show me what freedom is like
You chose to become human like me–I thank you.
You chose to reveal the kingdom of God–I thank you.
You chose to sacrifice yourself for your enemies and the world–I thank you.
By your resurrection, this freedom is assured.
Where your Spirit is, there is freedom.

Holy Spirit, help me live a life of genuine freedom.
Where ensuring the freedom of others encroaches on my freedom,
have mercy and give me courage to surrender like you.
Where my freedoms cost others their freedom,
Have mercy and give me courage to surrender like you.
Where others are enslaved and have no freedom,
Have mercy and give me courage to surrender like you.
That this world would become a little bit more like your kingdom.
Where your Spirit is, there is freedom.

God, set me free to be grace-filled like you.
Jesus, Set me free to be surrendered like you.
Spirit, set me free to be courageous like you.

In your glorious name, Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer,
Amen.
