Borderlands - Day 2

4/21/26

Borderlands: April 19 - 24, 2026

Our Boardlands group spent the day at Lydia Patterson Institute in downtown El Paso, where approximately 168 students in grades 7–12 attend.

  • 99% live in Juárez and walk across the bridge at the Stanton Street Port of Entry
  • 60% are U.S. citizens residing in Juárez

We met passionate teachers, administrators, and incredibly polite students in a truly welcoming environment.

  • Warm, supportive culture
  • Strong sense of community

We enjoyed lunch with students in their cafeteria, hearing their stories and experiences.

After lunch, we cataloged 68+ pieces of student artwork for the June silent auction supporting scholarships. We also helped move books for the Sunday open house as the library transitions to a virtual model.

One of our hosts, Deana, graciously gave us a ride home and a tour of downtown. We even saw a striking mountain lion mural made from recycled materials.

We’ll wrap up a meaningful day with our daily devotional and reflection after dinner at a locally owned restaurant.
