Costa Rica: September 12 - 20, 2025

Costa Rica Monday

God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. 1 John 1:5
Today Team Katy Costa Rica (TKCR) experienced God’s light and love in a myriad of ways. First of all, it was our fearless leader, Katy Nall’s birthday. The team celebrated Katy with a few bunk decorations, cards, and a cake. Katy deserves to be celebrated every day for her leadership and the light she has brought to each of us on this trip.
Today is Costa Rica Independence Day. On September 15, 1821, Costa Rica gained its independence from Spain. TKCR attended the San Isidro Independence Parade. This parade is much like a US parade with marching bands and colorful floats. People lined the streets with shade tents and friends and families gathered together to enjoy. People wore red, white, and blue, (Costa Rica’s colors) and it was a light-filled event.
After the parade, TKCR began working on the mission project. A deck is being rebuilt in the outdoor worship area at the Costa Rica Mission Project. TKCR is being led and supervised by a group of local construction experts who show the team how to do a task. The team then works as a unit to keep the project moving forward. The “gangplank” of the deck was completed today.
September is part of the Costa Rican rainy season and is the month when the most rain is received. The rain comes daily and is VERY heavy. The roofs are made of tin and the rain comes down so hard that it can be hard to hold a conversation. The rain provided an hour-long break from construction this afternoon. During that time, we received a demonstration showing how Costa Rica Mission Project removes the coffee beans from the fruit that it harvests on its property. The land the project sits on was formerly a coffee farm and the project produces enough coffee to sell as a fundraiser. https://crmp.kyte.site/
God’s light is everywhere in our surroundings. As TKCR member Shelly noted, it’s obvious that only God could create this beautiful environment. She also noted that she sees light in each team member. We all have the opportunity to be God’s light.
