Friday, September 12, 2025:

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy site; oh Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

And, we’re off! Team Katy Costa Rica (TKCR), named after our fearless leader, Katy Nall, arrived at the Kansas City airport at the very early 4:15 am hour for the 6:05 flight. Pastor Bill made the early hour airport trek to join us in a word of prayer prior to our takeoff. After a brief layover in Houston, TKCR safely arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica, a little tired, but ready to see what God has planned for us.

The first stop after the airport was the mall. The mall? Yes, they still do exist and this one is very large, alive, and well in San Jose. And why the mall? To get lunch, of course. Italian food. In Costa Rica and was it ever delicious!

We are staying at the very beautiful Hotel 1915. It was built in, you guessed it, 1915, as a very large home and was converted into a hotel 35 years ago. It is near downtown San Jose so TKCR took advantage of the location to walk the area. After strolling through a city park, TKCR came upon a Catholic Church where mass was being said. The team went in and took in the Spanish sermon. Although most of TKCR do not speak Spanish, the service was soothing and was a great way to wind down after a long trip.

On the walk back to the hotel, TKCR came across a United Methodist bookstore. The team made s everal purchases. We had to support the local economy!
TKCR members reported several favorite things about the day and both had to do with the people they came into contact with. Frank said that he was concerned at first about his airplane seatmate as he was displaying cold symptoms. He later learned that the man had allergies and that he was a great guy. He said first impressions aren’t always the correct ones. Pastor Joyce enjoyed getting to know the members of TKCR and exploring San Jose. Even though this is her sixth trip to Costa Rica, there’s always something new to see!
