Wednesday, February 5, Childcare at Leawood, West, Overland Park will not be open during morning due to local public school systems announcing late arrival schedules. All church buildings will operate on regular schedule. However, at Leawood, West and Overland Park, programs requiring childcare will not be held prior to noon Wednesday.
On Sunday, February 9, we’re moving our regular 5 pm worship service to 4 pm so everyone can get home in time to watch the Chiefs play in the Super Bowl.
Hello and thank you for stopping by to check out what our Resurrection team is doing in Costa Rica this week!
Yesterday was actually the first day of our trip, and you might be wondering where we were if you looked for the daily report. Well, you should have looked by the side of the road, because that’s where we spent about three and a half hours! On the windy two-lane roads, there was an accident that shut down traffic both ways. It sounds terrible, and it wasn’t perfect, but we had so much fun – standing by the side of the road getting to know each other, doing some bus yoga, and sharing the snacks we had just gotten from a little roadside shop. (A little inside joke, one of our buses took off before the second bus had a driver. Our bus two leader asked when another driver would show up and he said, “maybe 20 minutes, and we will see you in Santa Marta in four hours, God willing.”)
Our day had started bright and early – we are proud to say we were in line to check in before the airport kiosks opened. Our team was divided between two airlines and three flights. One of our team members was delayed, but arrived just a little late to cheers and a grandious welcome!
We had a quick and delicious lunch at a little restaurant in the airport and then took off, saying “so long for now” to San Jose and traveling to our home base in Santa Marta.
While we did our roadside team building, we were able to see our destination, just about thirty minutes away.
Showing true Costa Rican hospitality, when we finally arrived at our destination four hours late, there was a delicious hot meal waiting for us.
After dinner we did some quick unpacking, with lots of laughter and stories of what shenanigans happened while we were divided on two buses. But even with such an amazing and fun group, there was a lot more interest in showers and sleep so we called it a night about twenty two hours after we said “good bye” to our beloved KC.
Tomorrow is a new day and we have been promised ice cream if we are good in church. Here’s to ice cream and more adventures ahead. God willing!
