Costa Rica - Day 2

We were surprised to find that our first full day of the mission trip was spent doing no work at all. We spent the morning in the town of Santa Marta worshiping in the church that COR mission groups that have come before us helped build. It was a really special experience to see how valued the space is. They had a lively service with music that kept us on our feet clapping along. None of us even minded that it was in a completely different language!!

After that, the church group served us lunch then we headed back in to San Isidro for ice cream & exploring.

We wrapped up the day hearing the incredible story about how Wil & his wife Yolanda began this mission, the story that led them to it (and to each other), and the adventure they’ve had in growing it since 2003 when they began. The story offered insight into why they prioritize worship and community engagement before getting to work… why it’s important that we allow the community we’re here to serve, to also serve us… and that we should consider ourselves to be “being” the church while here because it’s more important to focus on what we are “being” than what we are “doing”.

After that we had pizza, a bon fire, conversation, games, puzzles, and went to bed to rest up for our first day of work!!
