Costa Rica - Day 3

7/28/25

Costa Rica: July 26 - August 2, 2025

We were so thrilled to finally get to see our work site and get to work! Our assigned project is to make some deeply needed repairs to a local camp site. Not only does this site offer a safe space for visitors to connect, worship, and stay while they visit the area churches… but it also offers a much needed revenue stream so that the churches can continue to serve their communities.  The camp had served in this way for a long time, but visitors have stopped choosing to stay there due to the level of disrepair. We feel truly grateful for the opportunity to bring it back to its prior glory.

Our group teamed up with the mission group from NC for the project. Together we enjoyed painting the interior & exterior of the cafeteria + bunk rooms, while listening to music ranging in genres from Christian to Country to Contemporary pop. We learned how to stucco interior and exterior walls (and that there’s a difference between the two!!), and along the way we got the added bonus of getting to learn about each other. What a treat to have such an assortment of personalities, life stories, education, backgrounds, family dynamics, and more. To watch the relationships building between team members so quickly has been an absolute joy!

To end the day, we enjoyed a wonderful meal together then carved out time early in the evening for devotion with the intention of getting to bed early… then stayed up late playing card games and laughing until we cried instead. What a perfect pivot! Hudson even teamed up with a few of the other teens to bake a cake that we all enjoyed as a late night snack. To say that it was a lovely way to end our first work day would be an understatement.
