Costa Rica - Day 6

8/6/26

Costa Rica: August 1 - 8, 2026

Thursday morning, we headed back to the worksite to wrap up the last items on our to-do list. It was hard to believe our time at the worksite was already coming to an end. In just a few short days, we had learned new skills, worked alongside one another, and become invested in the people and the projects we came to serve.

After finishing up, we headed back to camp and decided to try a local chicken joint called Mr. Pollo’s for lunch. We did our very best to communicate with our limited Spanish skills—and thankfully, we had Knox! He became our unofficial translator for the week and was an absolute lifesaver.

After lunch, the kids spent the afternoon helping at the on-site daycare. They played soccer, tag, and whatever other games they could come up with with the little ones. And yes…there was even a jump house! I think our kids were more worn out than the little kiddos by the end of the afternoon. Ha!

While the kids were busy playing, the moms had the opportunity to visit Yolanda’s women’s clinic. We sat down with Yolanda, Priscilla, and Maria and learned more about the incredible work they are doing within their community.

Hearing their stories and learning about the impact they have made was incredibly inspiring. They are pouring so much time, love, and energy into helping women and families, and it was amazing to see the difference their work is making. We also got to tour their newly remodeled office space, which was such a special glimpse into everything they are building.

It was one of those afternoons where we went in thinking we were going to encourage someone else, only to leave feeling encouraged ourselves.

That evening, we decided it was time to bring a little excitement to camp—so we had a talent show! And what better way to celebrate Wendy’s birthday?

What a group! We had singers, dancers, comedians, and even some real-life ballerinas. There was plenty of laughing, singing, cheering, and maybe a few performances that should probably stay in Costa Rica. 😂

We ended the night with an all-out rave, complete with neon sunglasses, glow necklaces, and enough energy to make you forget how exhausted we all were.

It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day.
