Costa Rica: July 24 - August 1, 2026

Good morning from Costa Rica Mission Project! Today all my friends started the day with a beautiful morning devotion around the fire pit by Ms. Joyce. Then they left to begin their service project at Pavones Evangelical Methodist Church. They were working on a parsonage for one of the only women pastors in the Methodist Church in Costa Rica. My friends are all ladies so they were especially honored to serve Pastor Jaime who is currently living in church classrooms, with her family, during renovations. Several of my friends worked on exterior painting, some worked on sanding wood and some worked on indoor flooring. We had a new friend with us, Jaden, who recently moved to Costa Rica from Colorado Springs. It was warm out but there was a beautiful view. Our friends Pedro and Hugito helped keep us all on track and we had a wonderful morning.

For lunch we returned to the CRMP for the chicken version of “iguana,” which was quite delicious! It was served with a fresh salad, rice and beans. My friends and I ate with some of the kids from an on site daycare. Turns out preschool lunch time wiggles and cross cultural. We had a little friend come sit with us for a bit. Turns out our Spanish skills combined still were not sufficient to successfully communicate with a three year old. Right as we all wrapped up lunch, the afternoon rain began.

Luckily it barely rained by the time we got back to work, mostly held out so we could finish exterior painting and started again as we wrapped up. It was almost as if God was accommodating our work. My friends were using power tools and literally working with their hands installing baseboards. They also got doors painted and sanded wood varnished for shelves.

My friends wrapped up the day with a delicious soup dinner in the rain, a beautiful devotion by Ms. Michelle. We met another little friend named Reuben who agreed that he was a little piece of heaven. My friends worked hard today and got a lot accomplished. Pastor Jaime and her daughter Valerie were so impressed at our progress! Maybe they will take me to help tomorrow!
