I am one tired Bun Bun this morning. These ladies with their laughing until all hours of the night–or at least until 9 pm, which is 10 pm back home! A game called Chameleon gets them going just as much as Farkle. From my eavesdropping, I have surmised Suja might be the resident expert on this one.
Anyhow today started with a heartfelt devotional by Senior (Ellie Makela). She challenged the women to focus on loving one another and had been spending our first 3 days together keeping track of moments where she saw each one of them showing love. She then shared that moment and a friendship bracelet for each. You would have thought it was another Costa Rican rainstorm based on all the tears shed! And I might need to remind her I still haven’t gotten my friendship bracelet. Hmmm…
Breakfast burritos and then back to the work site. Great news, gravel was delivered! Lots of gravel. So much gravel. All at the road. These women worked so hard to shovel the gravel into wheelbarrows, carefully walk it done the steep driveway, and spread it around the house to help keep things less muddy after the rain. By day’s end, they had moved 2 1/2 truck loads.
Folks not moving gravel were back inside filling in gaps between the baseboards, walls, and floor with caulk. So much caulk. All over hands and clothing. But good news, they also got lots on the walls where it should be.
During breaks, the ladies enjoyed a Jayden original song and then they serenaded the neighborhood with their best Frozen and K-Pop Demon Hunter covers. I didn’t even hear one dog howling!
At the end of a hot day, the ladies powered through some delicious, hot, handmade cheese empanadas and coffee before going to Wal-Mart for the essentials–more snacks.
We went back to CRMP to quickly clean up and head to dinner. Junior (Ellie Marker my ultimate bestie) gave a powerful devotion about how we will all end up as family through serving together this week. She ended with a cheer about the VBC memory verse and reiceved big cheers for herself! The devotional time ended with letters written to the ladies from their prayer partners. It is so awesome to see them being loved and encouraged from a distance!
Terre brought out her “grandma greatness” by sharing all the best snacks with the game playing crowd. They knocked out a few more rounds of Chameleon and Farkle up in the common area while other sisters were chatting and enjoying some down time in the bunkhouse.
Overall, a very busy and purposeful day. I think the group will sleep well tonight.
