Honduras - Day 1

6/7/26

Honduras: June 6 - 13, 2026

We are on a mission from God. Truer words could not be said and ironically The Blues Brothers was the movie I chose while on our flight from Houston to Comayagua/Tegucigalpa. Don’t judge, I needed the laugh after the 2:30 wake up call to make our early flight from KCI.

Despite the early wake up calls, our band of 17 mission team members arrived at KCI excited to fly the friendly skies of United Airlines and begin our week of service.   Thanks to wiser choices and better behavior than Jake and Elwood Blues, our team breezed through security and Honduran customs into the company of our local team of drivers and translators.

Speaking of blues. We were one of many mission teams on our flight to Tegucigalpa. And we were the only team not in matching blue shirts.  We must have missed the memo. Our band of techni-colored dream shirts were blessed to be amongst those making a change in Central America. It is inspirational that so many teams from around the US are willing to serve in Honduras.

Our team had an enjoyable lunch that offered a cafeteria style service of a wide variety of Honduran flavors.  Imagine yourself in Perkins but with the ambiance of Spanish servers, chicharones, some Honduran BBQ, various forms of plantains, rice and beans. Let the good food eating begin.  We shouldn’t go hungry this week.

Prior to our hotel arrival, we stopped at a grocery store to introduce the team to the snacks and other delicacies of Honduras.  Everyone came away with something to tempt their palate. We also learned that Honduras has a scouting program similar to Girl and Boy Scouts in the US.  A local troop was collecting milk for local shelters.  They were very respectful and distinguished in their uniforms.

We are staying in a hotel in Tegucigalpa this evening.  Tegucigalpa is the capitol of Honduras and a large city surrounded by mountains.  We had a delicious team dinner in the hotel and then shared our first team devotional on the roof of the hotel. The view was spectacular and the reflection on today’s accomplishments and tomorrow’s activities was inspirational.

Now it’s time to catch up on some sleep as we embark on our new destinations in the morning. Like the Blues Brothers movie, this week will be a classic. Thanks for keeping the band we got back together in your thoughts and prayers.  We are on a mission from God.
