Due to weather conditions, all in-person daytime and evening programs have been canceled across the church’s locations for Wednesday, except for the Recovery programs and Food Pantry at Overland Park. Decisions for Thursday daytime programs will correspond with local school district decisions and will be posted on the church’s website.
Scheduled programming has resumed for Thursday, February 13 at all Resurrection locations.
Another busy day in El Obraje working on pilas. Everyone is in a little bit different spot on their pilas so there was time to play with the kids at the homes for some groups. Another group was treated to a Coca Cola and Semita (bread covered in sugar) which is a traditional snack for Hondurans but is also known to be a popular break snack for construction workers here. It was refreshing and delicious in the heat!
VBS today focused on the lesson of Peter denying Jesus 3x before the rooster crows. We played games, did crafts and our theater team was at it again with a fun skit for the kids. Of course, we taught them the chicken dance and they all had fun dancing in their rooster hats.
Following our serving day in El Obraje, we returned to Danli to get ready for the evening. We visited a local coffee shop near our hotel prior to dinner. Chef Carlos prepared a traditional Honduran dinner of chicken, pork, rice and beans, plantains, and avocado with a tortilla.
We headed to a United Methodist Church for a prayer service where we were greeted so kindly by the parishioners and staff. Ice cream stop for dessert and back to hotel for devotions and prep for day 5!
Making connections with the local people, seeing how the pilas will change their lives and how the kids enjoy us being there is rewarding!
