Honduras - Day 5

6/11/26

Honduras: June 6 - 13, 2026

Today was another incredible day for our serve team in El Obraje, Honduras!

We started the morning with a beautiful drive to El Obraje, where we gathered in front of the town sign for a team photo. Everyone was smiling, energized, and ready to tackle the day ahead. Little did we know that by lunchtime, some of those smiles would be accompanied by very wet socks!

After our photo, we split into our work teams and headed to the family homes where we have been building pilas. It was exciting to see these projects come together as we completed the final touches. The families were overwhelmed with gratitude as they saw the finished pilas. What may seem like a simple construction project to some is truly a life-changing resource for these families.

One of the greatest blessings was not just building for the families but building alongside them. Working shoulder-to-shoulder, sharing stories, laughter, and hard work reminded us that ministry is about relationships just as much as it is about projects. Seeing the joy on their faces made every shovel of concrete and every drop of sweat worth it.

Speaking of drops… let’s talk about lunch.

Just as we settled in for our lunch break, the skies opened up and treated us to a full Honduran rainstorm. Not a gentle drizzle. Not a passing shower. We’re talking about the kind of torrential rain that makes you wonder if Noah is somewhere nearby building another ark. Thankfully, we stayed dry enough to enjoy our meal and added another memorable story to the trip.

In the afternoon, we headed to the local school to continue our Vacation Bible School with the children. We were thrilled to welcome around 50 kids who joined us for an afternoon filled with Bible teachings through songs, games, skits, crafts and lots of smiles.

Today’s lesson focused on Ephesians 6:10–18 and the Armor of God. Together we learned how God equips us with His strength and gives us everything we need to stand firm in our faith:

  • The Belt of Truth
  • The Breastplate of Righteousness
  • The Shoes of Peace
  • The Shield of Faith
  • The Helmet of Salvation
  • The Sword of the Spirit

The children were engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to participate. It was encouraging to see them learning how God’s Word can guide and protect them every day.

As the day came to a close, we returned for another fantastic dinner prepared by Carlos. After a full day of serving, teaching, building, and getting slightly acquainted with tropical rainfall, the meal was a welcome blessing.

We ended the evening with a team devotion and debrief, reflecting on all God had accomplished throughout the day. As we shared stories and celebrated victories, we were reminded once again that these experiences are about far more than construction projects or daily schedules. They are about serving others, growing in faith, and witnessing God’s love at work in powerful ways.

What a day in El Obraje! We are grateful for every family, every child, every teammate, and every opportunity God has given us to serve. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.
